Making a slight return to the original question, I would concur with what Sen. Kerry brought up in the third debate: there are areas of the economy which are outside any president's direct control. And then there are those parts of the system which are entirely within his control, for which he...
The recruits can't lose their levels if you rotate them through, the way I remember it. I'll go back and check a few post-mission bunker saves to be sure. Different ones do seem to gain experience at different rates, but that could just be the result of different starting XP and rank and...
I sometimes think the anti-computer-virus companies (McAfee, Norton, et al) are also contracting out for the making of the very computer viruses for which they later provide "treatment" -- for a modest fee, of course...
I think, once you rotate the recruit into your party, the experience gain becomes permanent. So if you just sweep through the entire recruit pool after every mission (you only need one open slot to do this) everyone keeps their XP. But you have to do this the first time you visit the recruit...
Cheney looking better than bush in a VP debate is not a victory for the Republicans. It's pretty obvious now that the ticket is inverted, and that's not going to help them. And based on demeanor alone, Edwards won handily.
A more rigorous scoring of the debate might give the edge to...
Bush doesn't need any help getting his ass kicked in a debate with John Kerry. He manages that quite well on his own -- one of the few things bush doesn't need to delegate. I guess it's possible he was wearing an earpiece, but he could just as easily be channelling voices from Arcturus...
It's becoming clear that there's a mix-up about "Fog of War" vs. "Line of Sight", and I can see that this caused some confusion -- perhaps even revulsion -- with respect to the initial question. Line of Sight does not equal Fog of War, although some would say that Fog of War is a (primitive)...
This is pretty important to remember. After every mission you need to hit the recruit pool and rotate all the newbs through your squad. You also get a chance to pick their perqs and spend their points, if they've leveled up. If you put a recruit back in the pool without choosing the perq, the...
Well if you've already got Pipboy and Riddick, no wonder you didn't use big guns in Jefferson! Question about this, tho:
In St. Louis you can get the Enfield XL-70E; if you're using 5.56 ammo and small arms, why would you pick the M16 over the Enfield? That thing can shred an armored...

OK, I did a little checking, and it turns out that St. Louis is the mission with the APC. When I said "quantum leap forward in difficulty at Jefferson" I meant to say it gets harder at St. Louis which comes before Jefferson. All those tips I mentioned earlier apply to the St. Louis mission...
The game does take a quantum leap forward in difficulty at Jefferson. There are a couple things you need to plan for in advance.
1) get 2 squaddies trained up on big guns, you'll probably be able to get a SAW or two from a random mutant enounter, and you should have a rocket launcher...
2 starter ideas.
1) Grab your brother by the feet, turn him upside down, and shake him until the CD falls out or he tells you where it is.
2) Amazon lists a brand new copy of the game for $12.90 (+s/h, usually around $5)
