In the light of Troika's recent end: Does anyone know how much of the cash revenue that comes from selling games typically goes to the publisher? What costs does this cover? Is the publishing industry offering game developers an efficient service (cheaper than they could do it themselves)...

I think people expect too much from sequels, generally. The industry would have us believe that it is possible to have your favourite games "continued" by someone making a Sequel, and then another sequel. Some of the best games are good because they're experiences. You can't "repeat" them...

In ~2003, I accidentally came across Deus Ex. (That's "Deus Ex", and yes, it IS a computer game, not a band, a movie, or a storytelling technique or something. If you haven't realized that yet, then you should go and buy it. Trust me. Heh.) Anyway, since then, I don't buy new games anymore...
