After playing Wasteland 3 a bit this weekend I can confirm this game kicks ass.
I wasn't sure about the whole Colorado theme at first... but playing to Colorado Springs it's won me over. It's still got the same soul as Wasteland 2, just way way better. Damn good RPG so far.
I watched Retcon's Beta Let's Play video and Wasteland 3 looks like a lot of fun! I'm not a kickstarter kind of guy, but I'll buy Wasteland 3 on release day.
To brush up on the story line I've picked up Wasteland 2 again. I never finished the California Campaign the first time around.

Beyond the modern graphics I feel some similarities in the narrative storytelling between this and the original Fallouts 1 and 2. Even more so with Fallout New Vegas, but I have gotten around to playing that one yet.
I haven't played New Vegas yet, but I agree Fallout 4 misses a lot I loved in the classic Fallout 1 and 2 games. That being said, Fallout 4 has a lot of great mods that aren't mentioned above.
