Fallout 3 moves 4.7 million copies

SECTION 8, give us an update about Synaesthesia at the codex you miserable bastard. Don't make me come over there. You forgot how the radiant dog AI is also hopelessly outdated when compared to fable 2:aiee:

    Gamasutra interviews Todd Howard

Well, draw distance entails both inanimate and animate objects, while what I'm referring to is having for instance a huge bazaar being completely lifeless and then suddenly springing to life as I turn a corner. Now whether this jars more or less than draw distance in fpp to me really comes down...

    Gamasutra interviews Todd Howard

Yeah, but JA2 hardly involves any non-combat world exploration so invisible npcs never really become a problem, while in fallout walking through a non-hostile city entirely devoid of life until they're in your range of sight just seems kind of silly from a design standpoint.

    Gamasutra interviews Todd Howard

I would actually even prefer it to "pure" isometric because it makes it much easier to have more tactical rpg combat, as instead of fallout's sixth sense of everyones whereabouts you could keep enemies obscured from view ala JA2. on topic: Whoever said bethesda didn't understand the...

Guardian Fallout 3 interview, the follow-up

how is that even a 'might'? Both pieces of gameplay footage show raiders popping up everywhere firing at you, so unless there are robots lying around every couple of feet you can repair to help you out, sneaking or shooting seem the only two options. Besides, Emil already said that 'pacifism'...

Meet the devs - Meet Todd Howard

Well, actually the dumbing down critique of Bethesda's work is mostly reserved for the substance of its games. Game technically what they're doing is offering a hybrid of first person action gaming and RPG's and hybrids are neither a step backwards nor a new step in gaming evolution (like the...

Meet the Devs - yet more quotes

Well, strictly speaking he isn't really lying or anything. Because of the whole combined publisher/developer construct the guy writing this is in a sense an "evil man in a suit" himself. Where a separate developer could fight the publisher to shape the game according to his own, not necessarily...

Voice acting - Liam Neeson has lead role in Fallout 3

Seriously though, I think NMA should really think over its - well we can't really be the judge of the end product seeing as we don't know anything substantial yet - stance. For instance, if Ron Howard is asked to do a Apocalypse Now sequel it's just plain insane to maintain that you can't be a...

Bethesda still hiring Fallout 3 Level Designers

I'm just loving the direction this game is going.

    Defining (The) Fallout(s): Part 2

Re: ""... The Horror, The Horror ... "" Yes, but the game doesn't go any further than that, which makes it a "you finished the game" kind of game over. The evil game overs all take place with more gameplay to be had. No, morality compasses your entire world, but the vaultdweller's world...

    Defining (The) Fallout(s): Part 2

Re: ""... The Horror, The Horror ... "" But is there actually any moral ambiguity in Fallout to begin with? The vaultdweller comes from a communal environment in which it can be argued that the "right" thing to do is simply that which betters the community, Vault 13, and in that sense the...

    Defining (The) Fallout(s): Part 2

I don't get how the fact that in Fallout the most interesting story element is the "end-boss" makes that applicable to cRPG's in general. Well, obviously any game is about the player, but setting aside the variations allowed by non-linearity the story of some guy searching for a waterchip...

    Defining (The) Fallout(s): Part 2

I think the guy's point isn't that the game is about Grey, but the story is. In terms of game mechanics the broad range of choices is what makes Fallout attractive, in terms of story it's Grey whose footsteps you are walking in as it were as you progress that's the focal point. Put the story of...

    9/11

Historical unicity tends to wither away after thousands of years of political history, unless you can name a recent unique historical event (which I've been trying to get out of you, not straw-manning). 1.The Iraq war was only possible in the post-9/11 political climate. Americans weren't...
