I've never done a chat-based RP before, how does that work?

www.nationstates.com isn't a Fallout-only RP site, but it does have a decent RP community, even if it's pretty noob-ish lately. I've been RP-ing there for several years now. Don't know if that helps. I'd also like to know about any RP site out there, Fallout-only or not.
