Sadly, this is a game breaking problem.
Either I need to fix this, or get a refund from GOG. Or get credit for another game on their. 50% of the time that I load a new area, I get memory can't be written. Yes, one out of two times the game crashes, which is way too much. About 5% it can't be...
I'm on Windows 7 64bit with 8 gigs of ram. I also use Megamod if that makes a difference, but I do have the latest fixes...or should anyway.
Randomly, sometimes when I start up the game. Sometimes when I load a game. Sometimes if I load a new area. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all.

What would I miss exactly (without too much spoilers) if I skipped fallout 1? Would I miss references or something? I know fallout games are sort of stand alone and don't really continue from the previous one (from what I heard).
