    Good news: I found the piece of scenery which was causing the crash. Bad news is that I hadn't saved many older versions of the map, meaning I will have to rebuild the EPA exterior map... again. I think it will be for the second, or possibly the third, time. Going to try to rebuild everything...

    Changing the game speed won't affect the time you have to complete tasks/missions. And, there is enough to do in Arroyo and at that shack to get the karma you need and return without having to go anywhere else.
