Not surprised given that apparently the showrunner only played Fallout 3. If your only contact with a franchise is an entry with really bad writing, the writing quality of whatever you are working on most likely will be just as bad, if not worse.

Fallout is (in Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas anyway) about how human society would develop after a nuclear apocalypse, not constant references to the old world. The fact Bethesda focused so much on the old world and barely developed the new one shows how they have never got the franchise.

I don't think the showrunners know what The Master even is because they only played Fallout 3. They just googled some easily recognizable iconography in a fallout wiki for easy references to games outside of Fallout 3 but only did it for like half of those things.
