Well, the events of KOTOR are referenced a lot, but there is enough exposition for you to understand them. Apart from that, a few characters from the first one come back, but nothing major.

There's something I forgot to mention: thegameplay is eh...mediocre at best. You get completely overpowered not too far during the game though, so it's not much of a problem. As for KOTOR 1, I found it to be an average game honestly. Average gameplay, average story... Still, it's worth doing if...
