Fallout 4- doesn't have to be incremental, chronologically

Yeah, 200 years doesn't fit the landscape, I don't think. In reality the Fallout 3 world is probably accurate for 20-30 years after the war. 50 maybe. Did they ever address a period of nuclear winter? I don't recall any. That could go a little ways to explaining things.

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

Look, you guys have some vendetta against them and that's fine. I personally don't get it. Fallout 3 does not seem to be of any lesser quality than any other game I've played. I'm just not that into the gamer culture so I can't quite grasp your emotional distress with Bethesda. I mean, I liked...

    Ammo

You do have to be careful. In my "no VATS" game it's even more of an issue. In the ant tunnels I was down to some mines and a handful of shotgun shells. I don't remember ammo suddenly becoming really plentiful, but as you get better skills it takes less bullets to kill things, and you get a...

    Ideas for new Fallout threats

Were they? I thought they were an average vault that developed into tech hoarding badasses.

    Ideas for new Fallout threats

I like the Chinese army idea. As for the PC, it would be interesting if the "natural" path for the player was the bad one, and he would have to suffer a bit for going good. Sort of a flip-flop from the norm.

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

He's admitting they had to make a trade-off, big deal. But hey, an opportunity to piss on Bethesda, so you damn well should take it! High-Five!

Fallout 2 & 3 side by side comparison

None of the games make sense. Heck, does any game make sense? Mention a game and I can take it apart quite easily. Why the heck is Arroyo a village of mongoloid dirt farmers with down syndrome? Where is the water in Fallout 2? Real world guns?!? Talk about shitting on the original vision...

Shouldn't radiation threats be high? (at least in FO3)

In Fallout, you just need to accept the setting for what it is. It is a wasteland, infrastructure is virtually nonexistent, there is still lingering radioactivity, and there was significant mutation. That's the canvas of Fallout and those aspects should probably always be present.

    Ideas for new Fallout threats

For the love of god, no more "cleansing the wastes" crusades. F2, Tactics, VB, F3 all had goons wanting to cleanse the wastes. You could even argue F1 had it, since the Master wanted everyone to be the same, which is quite similar. My thinking is, why do you always have to be the "Chosen...

Shouldn't radiation threats be high? (at least in FO3)

Wikipedia says :( Mutation from radiation is probably pure sci-fi also. Thank god for FEV!

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

Hmm. I'll try that. Right now I'm not allowing myself to use VATS. It's kind of fun. The mutants that charge me will likely give me a lot of trouble.

Fallout 4- doesn't have to be incremental, chronologically

No, you are scavenging what has already been scavenged, is what I said. The stuff in the school, for example, was stuff hoarded by the raiders living there.

Fallout 2 & 3 side by side comparison

The dialog didn't really bother me. I wouldn't say it's a strong point of the game but it got the job done. I wasn't expecting an episode of Gilmour Girls. Most of my conversations in any given day include bad dialog. I'm just desensitized I guess.

What if X made Fallout Y?

Dang, I forgot about all that stuff. It's been a while since I played III.

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

It had an AP cost, so you had to think about it. They could make you equip them to use them. Like a gun, with one shot, then you have to get another one. I wish they would have it so Power Armor gave cool benefits like automatically admistering stimpacks, or even VATS capability.

Shouldn't radiation threats be high? (at least in FO3)

What makes you say that? I read 30-40 years, which was somewhat disappointing.

What if X made Fallout Y?

The only thing IV changed was letting the hero fight. It was slightly less cartoony I suppose.

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

The real cheat is accessing your pipboy and pausing the game to take stimpacks.

I agree with about all of your points. A good, level headed analysis from someone without an axe to grind.
