    Pete Hines fires back

I'm used to hearing all this kind of stuff, but I'm not OK with it. In the highly unlikely event that it does fail commercially, I wonder if they would sell it on? I doubt it.

Lotto Winner Miserable - Life an absolute living hell.

Doing the stats you will obviously always lose in the real long term. But my point is that hope and excitement itself can have value. The magical thought that someone has to win, and it could be you. To go into extreme generalisation/analogy, one might do something for entertainment that...

Lotto Winner Miserable - Life an absolute living hell.

:) But lotto is not gambling? Middle-class and very wealthy people can blow ridiculous amounts of money at say, the races or casino, rather than using a little ol' lotto ticket. But for them it is acceptable entertainment? Lotto is a calculated risk that does have entertainment value, using...

Introduce yourself! AKA the "Say hello" thread

Welcome newcomers! Sander might come across as a bit grumpy at times, but he doesn't hate forum members in my experience. Don't take an attack on an argument personally.

I honestly don't get the Fallout 3 hate.

You make my opinion move toward the possibility that you are trying to be irritating. The alternative is that although your writing style seems alright, you have a poor grasp of your English vocabulary. To answer your silly question, of course people would criticise a lack of character...

    Internet auction and shop sites

I bought the Fallout Ultimate Collection DVD bundle (1/2/FOT) from EB on sale for $25 not too long ago, so it might be worth trying them again.

    X-Box says Fallout 3 for 2!

Tacked on to Fallout 3 as in without prior planning. Flawed by lack of development time, experience and yes, talent. I think a FO3 co-op mode would be a wasteful gimmick. As I might have mentioned, I haven't played a proper multiplayer RPG (or seen Baldur's Gate unfortunately), but I would be...

hey can I edit the AI....

I haven't been doing any FOT modding for a long while and should be cramming now, but meh. You could probably go through a nightmare of laborious scripting to restrict yourself. A lot of work for little advantage. Such as by using teams, wait command, zones, waypoints, (possibly C4 remote...

    Todd answers 25 questions

What evidence is there that accessing the inventory will not take AP's? Did I miss something? Could be that he wasn't really thinking in great detail, but that actions other than 'attack' could consume AP's. Still, if that only stops you from entering the gimmicky V.A.T.S. mode it isn't...

    Todd answers 25 questions

Inventory base was 4 AP's. With quick pockets it was reduced by 1 for each rank in Fallout whilst it was lowered from 4 to 2 for Fallout 2.

    Todd answers 25 questions

Which was a flaw in my mind. Did take AP's in FOT, which makes sense. I'm not clear on what system FO3 will use, as I don't recall any good evidence either way.

Rugby World Cup - France 07

It will be hard to top the last WC. That was amazing. Darn Jonny Wilkinson's mighty boot. It is kind of sad how the Kiwis keep falling just short. They are always bloody good. Maybe it is the nerves that gets them? The Portugese did defeat New Zealand in the football though.

Lotto Winner Miserable - Life an absolute living hell.

I don't gamble myself, but winning can be very handy. My grandfather won a smallish lottery, then practically blew it buying a property in a relatively bad area because they couldn't get the piano into the nicer places. It would have been nice if he was a better money manager. However, my mum's...

    What shoes do you wear?

Right now I'm wearing Colorado Riche suede leather shoes I bought for around 70% off. Pretty flimsy but comfortable enough. My poor Mack boots need replacing, but I don't have the cash.

    Todd answers 25 questions

I thank Todd for sharing. Little on canon destruction and many answers could be clearer, but that is unsurprising. Combat, interface and setting look poor, but choice, consequences and dialogue sound very good. Looks like they might overpower melee before even getting to technological...

I honestly don't get the Fallout 3 hate.

Please say so then. A change from ISO/TB to FPS/RT is a massive change in mechanics. The vault jumpsuits and BoS are important parts of canon and the setting. I don't mind changing aesthetic details, but it should make sense and have a good reason other than because it was easier and they felt...

    X-Box says Fallout 3 for 2!

That approach would lead to more dumbing down and problems as an RPG. Some might not call a terribly flawed, tacked on system unworkable, but I must emphasise that it would be a serious issue that would almost surely damage the single player game by wasting resources and biasing design. A nigh...

    X-Box says Fallout 3 for 2!

From my assumptions based on what we have seen so far and with Bethsoft aiming for mainstream appeal I can't immediately see a viable compromise, in contrast to a tacked on feature that could negatively bias design. I bet it would be possible with enough talent and resources, but not just now...

    X-Box says Fallout 3 for 2!

They have repeatedly stated it will be single player, but a co-op FO3 would be unworkable as an RPG, which I would vigorously oppose.
