tryin to get into this game in anticipation of fallout 3

Well... the games are on Gametap, and it's not really that hard to order the jewel case online. ...Okay, maybe the earlier games are harder to find now, I don't know, the last time I had to check was around '03 or so. Very true on figuring out how to get it working, though. Newer OS' are...

hmmm how about a mod that makes all evil things possible?

The prostitution thing has been... semi-kinda sort confirmed-ish as in. It may just be a reviewer's idiom, though, but a recent preview seemed to say that there's a prostitute and that you "get down" (fade-to-black style) in Moriarty's place. So it may be in, or it may just be a reviewer's...

tryin to get into this game in anticipation of fallout 3

Retro games? God-awful controls? Wow... I must be a dinosaur or something because I remember (once you get the hold of action points... you do know how the turn-based system works, right ken?... the controls are pretty intuitive.) As to your questions: 1) You don't repair weapons. In...

Crispy Gamer, UGO, GamePro preview Fallout 3

Well, since there's a spot in the menus (for the PC, mind) which has "Corpses Eaten" listed along "Rads" or radiation level or whatever, I'd say it's a safe bet that these will be actual cannibals. Which fits quite a bit better than the Family, really.

    GameSpot's Hands on Fallout 3

Meals Ready to Eat, officially. They're the field rations that Army (and probably Marine) soldiers get when they're off-base doing... recon...or somethin'. Though the unofficial de-acronym-ing of MRE is something like "Meals Remotely Edible." For obvious reasons.

Interplay Website launched, hires Chris Taylor

Oh come on now, don't go all Sorrow on us. GURPS was lost before Fallout was even a cRPG, so it wasn't integral to Fallout as it eventually became. All the stuff that Kyuu mentioned was, and dismissing it with an attempted jab doesn't make it less true.

'eard it before. And it's been disproven before. And it's not opinion, there are interviews with the developers who had control over such things as consistency with the mechanics before Interplay started fiddling with things unnecessarily- such as with Tactics' TB/RT hybrid.

IGN Fallout 3: Six Hours of Exploration

Yes, but, to bring this back full-circle: One of the worst choices you could make, especially when it comes to FPP, is to have invisible barriers delineating the end of the game world. On a map where your character is represented by an X or a dot or something it's not so noticeable. When it's...

Fallout still used turn-based to emulate PnP gameplay experiences. Whether it's only one of several options, or whether it's just the best possible at this point, is irrelevant. It was chosen for Fallout, and other non-spinoff games in the same series should not deviate from it, as it was a...

Interplay Website launched, hires Chris Taylor

Oh crap... more "to me Fallout is..." Look, it's objectively a reality that TB WAS a part of the core design philosophy. It's there to emulate pen and paper RPGs, encourage more tactical thinking (yes, the AI didn't help much, and no, bringing that up is not a valid argument) and as a...

IGN Fallout 3: Six Hours of Exploration

In FO 1 and 2 it made sense too: to the east, it was all wastes. To the west, you could go as far as the ocean. I can't think of why north and south were off-limits, though.

IGN Fallout 3: Six Hours of Exploration

Right, which is a problem with the way that Bethseda's set up this Fallout game in the first place. It's set pretty much entirely in DC and some suburbs, yet somehow magically the protagonist can't leave the area. Compared to FO 1 and 2, that's just weird.

IGN Fallout 3: Six Hours of Exploration

So what about sandstorms, or lethal radiation zones, or impassible swamps (DC is built in a low-lying former swampy area; I'd be surprised if it didn't revert, at least in places, after humans aren't around to upkeep everything)? Any of those could make more sense than invisible barriers. Or...

And I think it's funny how NMA seems to be getting a lot more people who get this "You all think that turn-based is better all the time" thing from us, when all most of us are saying (there are exceptions, of course) is that for a Fallout game, turn-based makes sense, was part of the core design...

I think he's talking about Tactics and BoS. Though I can definitely see how it's easy- and a good idea- to ignore BoS when talking about Fallout games. Even then, it's not less than half; it's half, even. Unless you're counting FO3, which you can't because it's not released yet. More on...

Favorite books / What are you reading?

Decent SF saga? Better than decent, if you haven't read it, is Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" series. If you're not too turned off by a slower pace, you could read Olaf Stapleton's "Star Maker" and "First and Last Men." They're not exactly sequential, but are set in the same universe and about the...

Fallout 2 makes top adult games list

Not a chance. White Wolf publishing KO'd Masquerade 4 years ago, and now have a different Vampire TT game with some recycled terms. And they, and CCP (who now own the company; makers of EVE Online, just in case you didn't know) are now probably working on an MMO set in WW's new World of...

    The Positive Thread

So, wait... how's this an addition to the positivity thread? This is more a mini-editorial on why those who dislike the changes should buck up and take it. And assumes we haven't read this a ton of times. Even in the last two months, let alone further back. Anyway, I'll follow my own...
