    Pete Hines on negativity

haha... yeah.. I grew up on Car Wars, Battletech, Palladium games, GURPS and Warhammer 40K. Even a bit of D&D thrown in. Though I tended to enjoy the tactical games more than the heavy RPG games. (Yes I see the irony here.) What I was getting at is even the quote that BN pulled out of the...

Ok.. last post of the night.. I re-read that inteview and I have to say that if you look at their summations of what is fallout and the descriptions of what you would have to have to still be fallout.. nowhere do they mention an actual game system. Artwork, fiction elements, those were...

No.. I think most action RPG's would not fit even the 2 items I listed. I know it seems academic but what I am trying to learn is "to you" what would be required beyond the "choices & consequences" and setting. So far you have said above TB combat. I am just trying to understand what your...

BN, Actually.. now I am curious.. For the sake of arguement, let's say Fallout 3 follows the core tenents of an RPG (Consequences, character skill determinate in outcome, etc.), and it carries the world created from original Fallouts. (I understand you probably don't agree on the above...

This is an retarded arguement.. I was saying and will say again.. that "for me" it retains that which is required to be a sequal. I don't think you or I have either have the right to declare it worthy or unworthy. So I have "100%" the right to say what matters to me. This desire portray my...

    Pete Hines on negativity

haha.. but he quite specificly ISN'T saying that. As long as we are on the "What right do you have!" arguement. What makes you think you really understand what the developers intended.. sure you have some interviews with quotes about recreating "tabletop" games. But I bet if you got them all...

    Pete Hines on negativity

I am arguing at the core it is an RPG. A true RPG.. it may have action elements (and I understand they are prominent). But unlike games like Diablo, or the Baulders Gate Console games, it does retain the core concepts that even Leonard advicated as an RPG. It is fine and justifiable for you to...

    Pete Hines on negativity

Ok... let me put it another way... Fallout is made of many pieces.. It is an RPG... (albeit based on GURPS mechanics originally) So can an RPG evolve (or re-invent) mechanics and still be an RPG. My opinion is yes.. Even if you listen to the opinion of Leonard Boyarsky, Fallout 3...

That's where the agrument fails.. agreeing on the "core premise", again I have to say that as a work of art, which is what I consider Fallout to be, the original intentions and the actual reception can vary greatly. I can tell you that what many here hold dear as the "core" of fallout, holds...

I won't disagree about many of the criticisms of their past games. I think on the whole they have been pretty forward admitting to the short commings in Oblivion without totally trashing themselves. I do think it gets hairy as we have seen over and over and over when discussing the...

Shacknews Impressions and Vault Dweller's Guide Scans

Can someone explain this "LARP" shit to me.. Seems like everytime someone brings up acting in character someone pulls "Larping" out of their ass.. yeah I know what larping is in the real world but please enlighten me where the line is playing "in character" and whatever the fuck you people...

    Pete Hines on negativity

Well he has a point.. because at least 3 of your five items I like.. it's subjective and I think it degrades very quickly into personal preferences.. What he is saying is "It's not my place to tell people they are wrong about their criticisms.. they will like it or not like it."

Shacknews interviews Pete Hines and Istvan Pely

Seriously?? Uhhh last.. relase was 2001 and that was a spin-off.. Hear the rumours that th license is still "alive", but let's see if we actually see somthing out of it.. like fallout.. there have been several attempt to revive the license that have failed before they were published.

Shacknews Impressions and Vault Dweller's Guide Scans

As for why does it actually tell the dangers instead of the 50's optimism... Come on guys.. you should know this! Because acourding to what we know so far... vault 101 took as many precations to keep the vault dwellers inside indefinately, because that was it's experiment.. so...

Shacknews interviews Pete Hines and Istvan Pely

I do think he has a point though.. Honestly there is danger both ways you go.. reinventing and just rehashing the old games... I WISH that other classics I like got this level of treatment. While many of you may not be excited in the specific direction that Fallout 3 has gone (I myself...

    5 new gameplay videos

I know nobody else seems to like them... but I like the crab people.. reminds me of the 50's drive-in sci-fi.. where lots of things were "people" shaped, becasue they had to put someone in a suit.

    Fallout 3 teaser site updated

I am really glad they spent some resources creating these "50"'s style videos. I am am really hoping they embedded quite a few in the game. IE.. we see them when we find holo-tapes, etc. I know some people don't like them.. but think they'll add a bit to the atmosphere.
