    Troika Eulogy

The last two pages were dedicated to reader responses from last week's article, which criticized the massive number of bugs and ruinous ending in KotOR II, and blamed it on the publisher for not giving the developer a reasonable timetable. If I ever find a direct link I'll post it here...

How did you discover Fallout ?

Yep, thats the gaming industry for you. I first experienced Fallout from a demo CD a friend brought over. This was long before the days that I had internet. I enjoyed the demo a lot, and always kept thinking to buy Fallout. Finally, I'm walking through a Best Buy to get my younger brother...

    For Americans- Is Torture acceptable?

As a religous person, don't go off topic on that, I am firmly against torture. I don't care what half baked excuses neocons come up with to justify it, its just wrong. If something is immoral... it is immoral! Straight from the Heart of it All (state marketing campaign)!

    Troika article

That was a screenshot from a very early built. Amoung other things that Jeanette model was replaced with the one we all (or some of us anyways) know and love. Basically, the whole scene is contrived. Hot chick, hot location, hot dialogue... one way to sell the game I suppose. EDIT: Oh...

Whew... I hope they post a correction on that soon. Thanks for your input Mandrew, and helping to dispel the clouds of ignorance. Your posts are always welcomed.

Fallout on PC Gamer top games list

Isn't PC Gamer the one that gave Bloodlines a terrible review, and ripped it for not being Half Life 3? Yeah, I think that mag is going bye bye soon.

    Troika article

At the codex forum, somebody from RPGdot, Dhruin I think, stated the 6 month sales figures for Arcanum were around 69,000 units. He then hypothesizes Arcanum's sales were a lot of "bargain" sales. If so, Bloodlines has already outperformed Arcanum's 6 month total. I don't know how accurate...

Fallout on PC Gamer top games list

Thanks for the list CL, hmmm... Half Life number 1? I don't think so. Doom you could make a case for, I'd disagree but I could buy the argument for it. Yeah, that list is definitely weighted towards games released in the last year or two. Plus, its weighted towards FPSers. I think it almost...

Fallout on PC Gamer top games list

Anyone know where I can read the list in its entirety? Not so much the comments, but if I could get those too it'd be nice.

Is there any hope for CRPGs in the near future?

Wow, if combat was KotOR's weakness, then the whole game is in serious trouble. One thing I like to measure RPGs by is "time spent in combat". If you play a forty hour RPG and 39 of those hours are spent in combat, you are playing a dungeon crawler. If KotOR was a forty hour game, which...

    Leon interview 2

Bethseda is a publisher/developer, and they are doing quite well, as I understand it. Their obvious claim to fame is Morrowind and its two expansions, which sold rather well. I don't know how many people they have on staff, but its a lot more than Troika did at their height.

    Leon interview 2

They do post here from time to time, and I think some read the forums much more often than posting. However, as Troika just reminded us, the gaming industry remains as cut throat as always. With games getting more and more expensive to make there is little room for charity. Plus, Beth has...

    Troika announcement

Re: Liquidation Vulture! Ah, well, I would have done the same thing had I lived in Irvine. Its nice to know they let their employees take the cream of the crop, and that they have a few things left over for memories sake. I mean, did any of their game's really bomb? Has the market just...

The corpse of Interplay still roams this fair earth

Wow, I'm not going to even ask how you got those pics, or who took them. Hey, maybe he was going to drive the stuff to Maryland to see if Beth was interested? Could be good for a few bucks...

    Troika announcement

Curses! Well, at least I haven't heard about class action lawsuits for back wages, or any claims that "we're still here". Though the letter really doesn't answer any of the questions that have been floating around the forums. Well, maybe in the fullness of time. I liked Arcanum, loved...

The corpse of Interplay still roams this fair earth

Yeah, the state Interplay was/is in almost leaves me glad that Black Isle never got Van Buren out the door. I know that may sound heretical, but a developer committed to getting right may not have been enough. The way Interplay has been acting I doubt that they'd have the resources or...

    In Other News

In other news. FF STILL AWFUL Many gamers have discovered that the Square Enix series is indeed still awful. This came as a surpirse to many, who thought they would try to play it again and suddenly discover it was good. Andrew Harding, a gaming and RPG veteran, said, "Yeah, I was...

    Troika gone belly up?

You do realize the publisher of the games decides when and what patches are released? Especially when the game is the publishers intellectual property. Furthermore, developing patches does take a lot time, which means money. I'm under the understanding that publishers compensate their...

    Troika gone belly up?

Well, by my calculations from Eastern Standard time to Pacific, the sale called for in the email should be over by now. Is there any proof that such a sale occured? I would like to know if the thing was a very bad mannered hoax or Troika going out with a sense of humor.

Hey, I'm a mathematician by trade, not a secretary or engineer. You are right, though, I don't think its a word. But if its an issue with you, I'll correct my sig.
