    Fallout Cultural Influences

I'm so used to the Master as a villain I hadn't even considered that, but you're completely right. The whole Master story is a Lovecraftian reference in its own right. (Definitely a cultural influence). And I agree on it possibly ruining the suspense of meeting him the first time. It's always...

    Arrogant modders?

Where can I find that info? I've been looking for it recently (like Someguy2000 apparently not wanting to do his planned Fallout 4 quest mods.)

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

"its Taken-esque, tried-and-true plot about the quest for a missing child with some of the same rusty old Asimovian questions about artificial intelligence thrown in did nothing to explore the game’s by-now famous opening statement." What a gloriously concise takedown of Fallout 4. This guy is...

NMA Podcast #5: Interview with Chris Avellone!

I think that RPG in an Afterlife idea came up in my thread to do with Western RPGs. WOOP! Well done @R.Graves http://www.nma-fallout.com/threads/any-decent-wild-west-rpgs-out-there-any-reason-why-there-hasnt-been-one.206182/

    Fallout Cultural Influences

Wow. That's impressive. Watching the music video only helps reinforce that theory. Hotel California is a pretty popular song. There's every chance that it was an influence. I'll also upload the lyrics. See what you guys think: On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of...

    Fallout Cultural Influences

I just thought of a really cool way they could've referenced Lovecraft in the original games. In Fallout, The Master is described as a Dark God, and has psychic abilities. So maybe in somewhere like the Boneyard, or just in a random encounter, you could run into a psyker character who's...

    Fallout Cultural Influences

Gothic fiction. Use of bloody and gory violence, liminal states (both psychological and literal), supernatural elements, disturbed emotional states, and most importantly the "uncanny". You'll find these tropes in every work of gothic literature, from Dracula to The Wasp Factory. I would argue...

    Fallout Cultural Influences

I need to go through Fallout with a fine comb and look at all the gothic elements. I wouldn't be surprised if it informs most of the storytelling.

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

I'm just shocked it exists, it's such a recent article. Maybe New Vegas will actually get some real cult status amongst video gaming, and I don't mean in the sense that it will be a fun game loved amongst just Fallout and RPG fans. I mean critically. Quick history lesson: The Wicker Man was...

NMA Podcast Round 6 - Nuka World

I do find it amusing that the moment AlChestBreach finished the Nuka World quest he was doing he apparently went straight back to New Vegas.

    Fallout Cultural Influences

I still need to see Damnation Alley. With Lonesome Road I think there's a spaghetti western style going with the revenge plot. Maybe it's just me but a scene like this is tonally very similar to a scene like this On another note. Is it fair to say that the original Fallout is very gothic...

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

Ah fair. Everyone does come across as a cartoon in Fallout 4 whereas almost everyone in Fallout New Vegas feels like a real person (despite the janky animations of course).

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

Is it fair to compare Garvey to Graham? I get that he's a terrible character but he doesn't have quite the same story or build-up as Graham does.

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

:ok: I noticed there was only one other comment. As someone who's written articles I know it's always nice to get the occasional positive response. On the article itself, I'm sure we can nitpick little details here and there about the history or details in the game itself, but my point in my...

NMA Podcast Round 6 - Nuka World

To be honest I'm shocked that the Bethesda writers know how to read.

NMA Podcast Round 6 - Nuka World

The idea that Nuka World and Dead Money are supposed to be in the same universe is such a joke.

NMA Podcast Round 6 - Nuka World

It's not just that. The voice acting. From EVERYONE. Ugh. I've actively made a point to ignore everything to do with Fallout 4 to try and forget its existence. So every time I do watch something Fallout 4 related it's like a slap in the face.

NMA Podcast Round 6 - Nuka World

I think AlChestBreach may very well want to kill himself. Oh my god the dialogue is HORRIBLE. 23:14 is beautiful. He seems lost for something to say.

Why Fallout New Vegas is the high point of the franchise

This might have been posted already, but I felt this article gave Fallout New Vegas some well-deserved critical analysis that might interest people here. I particularly appreciate the lack of shit's given by the author for Bethesda products...
