Civilization 3 should work brilliantly (well, to a point) on your machine, and Caesar 3 will too. Try them, along with Pharaoh, and Zeus :)

I found Rome: Total War to be a long game because it would honestly take forever to capture 50 or more settlements (or be me and capture EVERY single settlement), and then keep them happy. Man it was a pain. But I am playing through it again as the Scipii family.

I had a VGA cable connected to a 22" Acer LCD monitor for a good 12 months, and it worked brilliantly. Is that what you were after?

I agree with The Overseer. 6 hours is far too quick to actually be enjoying the game, but I could imagine the game being completed quickly, but just not that fast. Sure, just doing what the Assassin's tell you and nothing else is fast, but surely longer than 6 hours.
