    Lore inconsistencies

Just because we hate it doesn't make it any less canon. Star Wars Episodes 1-3 are canon, for example.

    Zero Punctuations review

I love the guy. I find him both humorous and insightful -- though I'm sure our play styles are very different when it comes to RPGs. I had to cue up his Fallout 3 review to measure how familiar he seemed with the originals (read: not at all, I'm afraid). His perspective is definitely more in...

is it me or the map a bit small......

You missed out on a lot of good content then. Some of the best experiences I had while playing Fallout 3 came from the sandbox (this is the obligatory spot when I write out a list of such items but besides "The Republic of Dave" most don't fit neatly into bite sized descriptions). The most...

Fallout: New Vegas reviews round-up #9

I've yet to play the game yet but it seems that the "failure state" of a speech challenge would be combat or the lack of its avoidance, right? Isn't this what somebody complaining about dialog would want? or, wait.. is he saying he wants to pass dialog options and smooth talk without using a...

    New Vegas music on Piano

    Beautiful work.

New Vegas, why isn't it 'great' in your opinion?

It has been forever since I've thought deeply on the behind the scenes processes of the infinity engine, but I do believe the calculations were turn based in nature (though, from a players standpoint, it's true that you couldn't take this "behind the scenes" abstraction and lock yourself into...

25 best Fallout New Vegas mods

So you'd rather a game that allowed only insignificant changes to result from your actions? Fallout is about mutual exclusivity and choice. Notice how plot choices cut off certain quest avenues? That's by design and directly an outgrowth of this design tenant. The level cap likewise flows...

New Vegas, why isn't it 'great' in your opinion?

I don't think so. That's like saying chess would naturally be outmoded by baseball. They touch different elements of the mind -- one's visceral and reflex based whilst the other is more consciously analytical and based on optimal choice. There is also the "character skill vs. player skill"...

New Vegas, why isn't it 'great' in your opinion?

I've played very little so take all this with a grain, but "one line dialog responses" can be taken as a metaphorical catch-all to my issues with the game. This is, after all, relatively minor in significance compared to the improvements, hence why I'm playing, but there seems a lack in depth...

    Ripten Retrograde: Fallout

I was very excited to see this -- intelligent critical analysis of videos games is so rare to find. ... then I read it.. *Sigh*.. yes, very rare indeed.

25 best Fallout New Vegas mods

It seems more rewarding to just replay the game with a different build. With a level cap and an ending I presume changes the dynamics of the land (or at least gives a solid epilogue, I hope) playing after the ending would be silly. Either way, It's not like you're railroaded into the ending...

    Chris Avellone interview

It's entirely possible this content wouldn't have even been developed without the deal in the first place (i.e. a guaranteed return on the investment, ala Grand Theft Auto IV's exclusive content which Microsoft paid for upfront).

    Will Obsidian make another FO?

That's kind of my point -- most reviews I've read have looked beyond such superficial analysis, even day one reviews.

    Will Obsidian make another FO?

I don't think I'm ready to give up on game journalism just yet. The over all scores are high enough to indicate they're looking beyond the surface level veneer of things. At first glance FNV looks to be just a mission pack for FO3 -- something akin to that, with all the bugs and dated...

    luck stat question

I really wish they gave any indication of what the stat altered in the game. In Fallout 1 and 2 I could at least count on it rolling me up some beneficial random encounters but in Fallout 3 it seemed to merely affect crit / to-hit calculations. *Sigh*.. it used to be kinda fun.. Oh well.

Just cause its BETTER doesn't make NV perfect...

Why mod it out? Couldn't you just exercise self control and not use it? I detest fast travel in most games but, reflecting back on my personal approach to epic modern RPGs, I tend to end up using them after the 40~ hour mark. Before that, however, it's just silly. Incidentally, Fallout 1...

    Gender matter?

Just curious. For most game's it's mainly a skin change and might elicit a different set of pronouns from time to time. In Fallout 2, however, it played a big role regarding content accessibility. I presume Fallout New Vegas follows Fallout 3's example but, for all it's faults, I liked...

Just cause its BETTER doesn't make NV perfect...

What worries about the bugs, and one of the biggest reasons I've not cracked the case of my store bought copy, aren't the overtly noticeably game breaking issues. Those are fine -- I can see them and know when I have to reload. What troubles me are the multitude of smalled issues which plague...
