Anybody waiting for a patch before playing ?

... 'cept you lost your save after patching and had to restart (or never played with the patch). I'd never *EVER* want to play Fallout 2 unpatched. Google up the fixes sometime to refresh your memory on how evil some of those bugs were. This example is actually in favor of waiting, though I...

    Weird DPS measure?

 Why? What is inherently so inferior about how the game would appear on a HDTV than a monitor? They could have added a scroll feature (if it doesn't already exist) to add an infinite amount of real-estate to any particular window. It's all code -- they can do whatever their...

Difficulty? Help me decided where to start.

I'm glad you made this post, it has given me pause to reconsider my position (after all, I can change the difficulty if it's untenable). To answer your question, though, what I'd have loved to see with an increased difficulty would realistically be a modification to spawn tables for enemies...

Difficulty? Help me decided where to start.

Thanks, guys. Normal it will be, then.

Difficulty? Help me decided where to start.

Crappy thread title, I know. However, the sentiment is very sincere. Here's my problem: I normally play games on the hardest available starting difficulty. I like to think. I like a challenge and, hell, I've been playing video games since the Infocom Zork, PlanetFall, Space Quest days...

    JE Sawyer Formsprings #9

I'm no expert but I was under the impression that Kaiser was a "Germanization" (well, "Prussianization") of Caesar and not necessarily the correct way of saying it. Do we really know how latin was pronounced? We have conventions but how could we know the literal pronunciations of a dead tongue?

Fallout: New Vegas' bugs due to its size

I imagine Fallout New Vegas murders S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It looks to be a fun FPS but at least Fallout still retains vestiges of its RPG roots (reactively branching mission structure, SPECIAL system, etc). S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has great world ambiance but, under the hood, it's still a FPS.

Fallout: New Vegas reviews roundup #5

Again, though, I don't think he was trying to say the graphics were particularly impressive. Just that whatever people assessed of the graphics 2 years ago would be higher then than now. It had better graphics for its time seems objectionable due to games like GTA IV but keep in mind that today...

Obsidian vs. Bethesda: Budget and Autonomy in Design?

I stumbled across this on another forum and, despite my general good nature and charm, felt a flash of anger: He then went on to say that this brilliant bit of deduction came from the $10-30 million dollar budget FONV was saddled with and Zenimax's reluctance to give carte blanche to...

Fallout: New Vegas reviews roundup #5

I think you missed his point. He was saying that the graphics were the same but, roll the calender back 2 years, the "same" equated "more impressive" due to the lowered standards of the industry.

    @ Hardcore Fallout 1&2 Fan

I really liked this guys point of view on the clothing issue: 'Course, it doesn't heal all but it's a progressive way to look at it.

Bethesda allegedly pulls negative Fallout: New Vegas review

Yeah, I can get behind that. There has been a noticeable decline in detail as the technology has grown. 'Course, I've always felt Bethesda was kind of a basement, cottage job that fell ass backwards into being an industry big wig against the odds. Hell, they can't even code ladder integration...

My God-- it's full of free guns

I think the idea is if you consciously imposes your will on the lawful property rights of another, for whatever spurious rationale you've hastily constructed, it is consider a blight upon your moral compass (a compass notably crafted in the image of Adam Smith). I' fine with the karma...

Fallout: New Vegas reviews roundup #5

Funny read. As somebody still on the fence (and a despiser of the hollow tropes of Bethesda games) I'm happy to see people finally addressing his criticisms. One minor contribution, however: I can't remember exactly when (perhaps in the DLC itself) but it's established in the lore that...

Fallout: New Vegas Reviews Roundup #4

Well, I don't like the real Vegas so I never entertained the notion a digital replication dripping 1950s retro charm (another point in space/time I dislike) would be particularly endearing. Still, I like Obsidian and I love Fallout (the originals). My only fear is that the world will feel too...

Things you *aren't* pleased to see

I really enjoyed your post (both the element I'm about to agree with above and the stuff I excised for space considerations). I likewise like to rationalize the inconsistencies in my fantasy worlds away, though I hand't considered many of the clothing items you suggested (and had previously...

    First impressions.

Well, like I said before, his entire post was really just an elaborate commentary on a disconnect he saw between the vision of the script writer and the execution of the design team. The casino and farm where merely examples of this trend which he implied enveloped this game. However, my...

To anyone still doubting if New Vegas can make up for F3...

She was flighty and colorful, yes, but I can't say I felt her accent made a lot of sense. However, perhaps due to the amount of unique dialog Bethesda wrote for her (and the fact I did her complete quest line which took me half the game), she became far more human than any of the other...
