    First impressions.

You know, I just thought to look at the comments myself (I tend to tune comments out on most blogs/news sites/etc). It made me feel better that this guys opinion was severally an outlier though nobody has directly contradicted any of his claims (besides vague ones about the writing). Still...

Is Diagonal Walking Animation and Moonwalking fixed at last?

True, which is why I posted that. It's not so much the engine but the hands the engine is in (was basically my point). Gambroyo is more than capable it's just that Bethesda hasn't invested the time or energy to address the limitations like other developers have (and why should they? They can get...

    @ Hardcore Fallout 1&2 Fan

I think there is still the larger issue of Black Isles failure to give sufficient emotional connection to these motivators. "Save your village" sounds great on paper but my memory was I lived in a village full of pricks that didn't particularly elicit my compassion. "Save your vault"...

Is Diagonal Walking Animation and Moonwalking fixed at last?

Bully used the same engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebryo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYQp1semBJ4 (ignore the crappy music). I think the blame should sit on Bethesda's shoulders.

Good points. Ironically, we were given the chance to form closer emotional bonds with the dwellers in Fallout 3 yet the story never really capitalized on that early game investment.

What about the second portion of text where he basically describes a litany of similar disconnects between theme and presentation. I guess, in essence, I'm curious if the presentation feel hollow...

    First impressions.

I just read the Rock Paper Scissor's review and now my anticipation for this title dropped to about 3/10. Does this game feel as poorly imagined and hollow as they make it out to be? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/10/21/wot-i-think-fallout-new-vegas/#more-42293 ? (to save you...

Fallout: New Vegas Reviews Roundup #4

I'd be interested in reading your thoughts at greater length, especially regarding the overarching structural and quest differences with Fallout 3. Your commentary that it "doesn't even have that much on Fallout 3" seems at odds with many other commentaries I've read (on these very forums no...

    Traits you're going to use?

Wild Wasteland shouldn't be a trait but a toggle (like Hardcore Mode). That said, since I started with Fallout 2, I'll probably take Wild Wasteland and either four eyes or small frame (the latter being a classic selection for me).

To anyone still doubting if New Vegas can make up for F3...

Moria was fine, though the attempt at humor through her characterization fell a bit flat. That aside, however, I actually found her endearing. Her multistaged quest was one of the more memorable in the game for me (taken as a whole). That said, I never blew up megaton and would probably slam...

Looking for a decent Fallout 3 review.

I'm new around here but I've been tickled by the keen analytical skills of many posters. Does anybody know of any fair and balanced Fallout 3 reviews that explicitly itemize all its deficiencies in a level headed, if not humorous, manner? I've played the game so this is more for my...

    @ Hardcore Fallout 1&2 Fan

Thanks for the reply. You know, when I take off my rose tinted glasses, I guess it was pretty difficult to play a pacifist in Fallout 1 and 2 as well (especially 2 where you were definitely forced into battle on more than one occasion).

Per this, I was curious if Fallout NV forces certain skills down your throat like Fallout 3 (a game which almost seems to demand you have repair and a high level combat skill, etc). Is NV more free form in the builds you can make work or still kind of regressive in this respect? From another...

    First impressions.

Well, this could be a legitimate complaint. However, it will take a replay for you to really tell. I remember once I played a session of Fallout 2 and rolled up a extremely feeble character with a luck of 10. Immediately after leaving Arroyo I ran into a random encounter which gave me a super...

So, can one actually role play in this title?

I love you. No, nothing constructive to say or add to the conversation. I just wanted to let you know that when the No Mutants Allowed action figurine sets get released I'm buying 10 copies of yours.

So, can one actually role play in this title?

Not to shift the conversation again but, regarding the minigames, have any changes been made to either lockpicking or hacking? I really hated those minigames in Fallout 3 (especially hacking). Funny, in Oblivion I smiled at the option to bypass the game and just do a skill check but never...

Bethesda allegedly pulls negative Fallout: New Vegas review

No, not at all. Not even one. Bethesda has amazing writers, actually. The books in Morrowind and Oblivion (most of which were carried over) are a testament to that. Granted, many of those writers have probably long since left (I've never bothered to uncover the names of those individuals)...

So, can one actually role play in this title?

Thanks for the in-depth analysis, guys. You're both doing wonders to making me feel at home in this community. All that aside, I'm sad to hear the dialog is more straight forwards, ala Bethesda's past ventures. Still, brevity aside, I imagine it's still a few notches above their schlock in...
