GameDaily: What We Could Learn From Board Games

Like this guy, I used to complain about playing the same types of AAA games over and over and then one day I got fed up and stopped buying and playing them. I don't think there's any hope for the AAA industry until the average Joe gets over their addiction to flashy graphics and that isn't...

    All About Arcanum

I've always been curious about Arcanum, but have never had the time to play it. It sounds like I could learn a lot from it.

    Todd Howard on Gamasutra

Ultima 8 was the greatest Ultima evar little dude! Back in the early 90's the suits realised that the Ultima rules were too "old tech", so they decided to modernise the game and changed it so it would be more like the totally awesome jump and run games of the day! As a result both the...

    FIFE SOS

This is not just a Fallout community thing, every volunteer team faces this same problem. The only way to get through it is for the main guy to keep plugging away for years on end. The other solution is to get funding, but then you'd have to make what the man wants and 99% of the time it...

More on Fallout 3 from Todd and Pete

    I think I need a Todd filter.

    Happy Falloutine?

I'm going to wait and see what the mods say about Fallout 3 first. If they like it, then I'll buy it.

Glittering Gems of Hatred, part III

I think he's a toned down Roshambo and he's just a hairs breadth away from exploding into his former rightious fury! I really miss that. :)

What's your RPG preference? Pre-made PC or create your own?

The idea with the premade characters is you can have relationships with the NPCs that exist before the game starts. So you could be a member of a tight family unit or a gang that has its own history, friends and enemies and you could use the historical information to influence these people...

The fashion of next the winter seems Fallouty!

I don't understand the point of having male catwalk models. No average Joe would ever buy the clothes they make them wear. Women on the other hand can wear just about anything and get away with it. What's with that?

What's your RPG preference? Pre-made PC or create your own?

Hi Everyone, Steven North and I are working on a game together and the idea he mentioned above has evolved since he started this thread, so I thought I'd tack this bit on. At the start of our game there will be several groups living together in a small area (for example imagine a hotel)...

    Unknown PA Game

I don't know the name of it, but I saw game made by Russian developers that matches your description. I'm sure it was mentioned in the news section a while back.

    Desslock and Fallout combat/viewpoint

You're right. The target audience is kids like my 9 year old nephew. Why? Because parents have plenty of cash/credit and are willing to spend it on anything junior wants. I think if you guys want to see good RPGs again, you're going to have to start making your own, because the AAA's aren't...

    The Guns and Ammo Thread

I don't have a gun and to tell you the truth they really creep me out. There are so many unbalanced people in society (including female cops!), so I don't like the idea of anyone having them unless they need them for their work. P.S. They make it very hard to get guns in Australia unless...

Shacknews interview on Fallout 3 with Pete Hines

Thats an absolute classic. Someone should create an anti-add banner based on that picture. Its interesting how the people that tell us to trust Bethesda always have around 5 posts.  Or am I being too cynical? :)

    The worst (?) movie ever

The worst movie I have seen recently is Steve Jackson's King Kong. Its a prime example of what happens when the director has too much power and is an SFX nut. They really need to edit that movie in half.

    The worst (?) movie ever

The worst movie I can remember is Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058548/

    Fallout - Please Stand By

I thought having more than one song worked really well (the old and the new, fantasy and reality). The only problem was when the Vault Dweller was being dropped into the Vat. You could hear the music from the game under the music you had selected.

    Fallout - Please Stand By

Great video Lancelot. It reminded me again just what a master work Fallout 1 was.

    What makes a good sequel?

I haven't read her work, but I think she succeeds because I suspect the series was a pre-planned body of work (as opposed to the original being a self contained story). For similar reasons there's no drop in the quality of LOR. I think the main difficulty artists face in creating sequels to...

    What makes a good sequel?

My 2c: If the first movie/game/book is exceptional, I think its almost impossible to make a sequel that is equal or better. Because for something to be exceptional (apart from high quality production and writing), it must surprise us by showing us something we have not seen or thought of...
