That looks great. I wish I had backed that.

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Because I'm feeling curious about inXile, I'm playing through that Bard's Tale action game released several years ago.

    Torment Kickstarter goes live

I think the tiered pricing is their way of rewarding the early backers. They just badly underestimated the level of interest in the project, I think. As a result, the lower priced tiers filled up way too quickly -- I never even had a shot at the $20 level -- and so the higher prices on the same...

How Fallout: New Vegas got Mormonism right

I'm not sure I agree that Graham's arc really ends up back at "saint", at least not in the traditional Mormon sense. If anything, Graham struck me as more of a microcosm of Caeser's thesis-antithesis-synthesis pedagoguery. Joshua started out a Mormon missionary, because a ruthless military...

    The Shandification of Fallout

Actually, he was talking about a design in which the story and the setting become blurred to the point that they are not easily distinguishable. That describes New Vegas almost perfectly, as the Mexican stand-off over the Hoover Dam forms not only the backdrop of the game, but also the main...

Aliens Colonial Marines - saddest shit ever?

Yeah, faceless alright. So silent and distant it's almost as if the corporation is hardly even present in the films. If you believe the company is primary antagonist of the first two films, I have to believe you don't know what that word means.

Aliens Colonial Marines - saddest shit ever?

I have to say, I really agree with Crni's larger point about the narrative role of the corporation in the original movies. They were barely present in Alien, certainly not enough to act as any kind of meaningful antagonist. In Aliens they played a larger role, but one that was still very...

What's your opinion about keyword dialog system?

I really enjoy the back and forth that can come with well written dialog options. I also like the clever ways in which the dialog choices themselves can communicate information to the player. So I guess I favor full responses, although I'm not going to lose any sleep over the use of keywords.

Wasteland 2 first look video released, update

I'm not sure a twenty-five year old game is a good basis for comparison though. If any aspect of it wasn't leaps and bounds ahead of the original Wasteland, that would be a pretty big failure. I really like what I see of the demo. I would definitely prefer a true dialog system, but I would be...

Fallout 4 teased? Three Dog returning

The BOS were never knights in shining armor until Fallout 3. In Fallout, they were a cloistered organization that was concerned with the affairs of the wasteland only so far as they impacted the Brotherhood. They were xenophobic and insular. They didn't want to fight the mutants at all, and many...

Fallout 4 teased? Three Dog returning

Fallout Tactics is as abusive to the lore as Fallout 3. It's not a terrible game, unlike FO: BOS, but it's not really a good entry in the series. The fact that it happened under Interplay's watch makes it feel a bit more galling to me, though. In my opinion, it's a much poorer representation...

Bethesda registers Fallout trademark for a TV series

Bullshit. You never say something like, "I really like Quentin Tarantino's movies, so I'll probably like Django"? I straight up don't believe it. No one starts from zero in any of their valuations. It's completely valid to react to this with skepticism considering a) that video games typically...

New Vegas modding, Fallout 4 rumors, and tidbits

Fantastic way to address the problem, actually. Most of the lore problems in FO3 can be traced back to the fact that all of the factions carried into the game from the originals were out of place on the east coast and substantially distorted from their original design. Creating new stuff would...

    Black Isle Studios crowdfunding PV13

I think it's wildly optimistic to assume they can produce even a half-working demo. The company in its current incarnation has basically zero track record for producing games, and a history of failing to meet its obligations.

Obsidian almost made Baldur's Gate 3

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of D&D, so I greatly prefer New Vegas to a hypothetical BG3.

The Age of Decadence third beta released

Vince, I suppose I misunderstood this text then. As I reread, I can see how there's room to do so. God damn it, but it was. I completed multiple combat demo releases with different builds, including going through the fight at the inn. However, when I try to kill that one stupid assassin in...
