Funny and Stark Example of Beth's Laziness...

It helps to remember that Blizzard now is not Blizzard of before. Most of the group fragmented after Diablo and Starcraft.

    Fallout 3 tidbits

*ahrrrm* Western gamers buy games to play them. Japanese games are typically very much about the story more than anything else, you only have to look at the proliferation of VNs to see that. Japanese games are stories with intermittent cases of gameplay, or they're SHMUPS with lengthy...

How you play & Why ?

As of three days ago, I don't. I tried to like it. But I just can't.

    Oasis

People are calling it steampunk now? Do they... know what steampunk is? I don't see zeppelins and steam-powered spiderwalkers in FO3. Yet.

Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

Having an isometric game engine remember, but fadeout, building levels apart from the one you're currently on (remembering the locations and movements of anyone on those floors) shouldn't be overly difficult with current technology. Especially if you're working with layered sprites and have...

    Oasis

Thank you for your... insightful post. Harold was easily one of the best NPCs Fallout ever had, and I was glad to see how he would've played a fairly prominent role in Van Buren, and relegating him to a tree is kinda missing the point of both the tree in his head and how post-apocalyptic...

    Shelter video

But could you say "I've killed 5 men with my bare hands!" even when you haven't, and have it check against possible intimidation and successful lying?

    A genuine, worthy sequel

Dear god. I hadn't even been conceived in 1979, you realise? Still, always good to reinforce the point.

    A genuine, worthy sequel

But... Fallout 3 wasn't used to do it. Ultima Underworld was. And Deus Ex. And System Shock. And they all did it FAR better than Fallout 3. Even SS2, which while railroaded, at least had stats that mattered.

    A genuine, worthy sequel

Reader Reviews don't really apply to this argument, as they're not being paid to review, aren't supposedly journalists, and you expect them to be biased. Professional reviews are supposed to be much more objective, and not ignore glaring bugs and omissions and to review a game based on its...

Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

I too would rather it be high-angle camera (basically iso), click movement, and at the very least CTB or RTwP, not just hold mouse1 to shoot. That's the start of a decent RPG. However, I'm not sure these are things you can even put into FO3 with the CS. Maybe, but then would it be worth it? Sure...

FO3. My thoughts good and bad. *SPOILERS*

Congratulations, you fail at comprehension, and win the "missed the point entirely!" award! I wasn't advocating point-click gameplay. I was advocating isometric viewpoint over first-person, which remains entirely valid in this day and age despite a continual stream of claims to the contrary.

    Gripes about the writing

Well, I was 13 when FO1 came out. Still young by many standards, but I certainly feel old looking around the internet today. (And for reference, this house sharing episode was earlier this year)

Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

We're not the Fallout fanbase anymore. They are. We're just those Glittering gems of hatred over at NMA.

Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

I've got to admit, I did a bit of a double-take reading that one. This is Fallout, it's not supposed to... You know what, fuck it. I should've expected that. Let's make Fallout a war game. That'll make it even MORE popular.

Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

I've given up hope already. The ConstKit can't fix FO3, it's damaged beyond repair. Someone put it down.

FO3. My thoughts good and bad. *SPOILERS*

Doesn't killing Roy net you negative Karma? And there is no reason at all that an Isometric viewpoint game can't sell in this day and age. Saying otherwise is ignorant. Is Blizzard ditching Iso for Diablo 3 to make it FPP? How successful was NWN and NWN2, enough at least.

Some odd "holes" in Fallout 3

The "city" of Chernobyl wasn't really much of a city, when you consider it was little more than the reactor and some attached facilities, and Pripyat was where all the workers and their families lived, and it had a population of 40,000, the majority of whom were evacuated/just up and left the...

    Gripes about the writing

I have very little hope for the gaming industry these days. I'm far more interested in things coming out of smaller, indie groups and mod teams than the big-name gaming companies. Just take a look at Shelter. That's magnitudes better looking than FO3 and they're in pre-alpha, or thereabouts...

    Gripes about the writing

We as in the royal we. Because I like to do that. And the more indepth, varied, and choice-giving the dialogue, the better. Speaking like shakespear has nothing to do with it. An RPG should let the player do what they want to do, and the more options you give at every opportunity, the closer...
