I have started a new game, much to my dismay. BUT I will leave that save file just in case someone gets me an answer.

Had the same problem with the game REALLY late in the game. I would just reload save file from earlier. And if you don't have a save file, you can get to Junktown really quickly while still doing everything in Shady Sands.

So I'm really late in the game. I'm at that church where the master is and I'm ready to kill him. I'm going up the stairs and my game crashes. Great. I guess I'll go to Mariposa Crashes. My biggest mistake was that I only used 1 file for quick saving and loading. If there is anyway to fix this...
