    honestly you can handwave it by saying future. it was 2077 after all. culture didn't change, but technology did. their food preservatives and building materials could survive 200 years of wasteland exposure.

    I don't understand complaints about Beth's take on pre-war society

    fallout 1 and 2 painted the portrait of a prewar society similar in some aesthetic ways to but not identical to 1950s/60s america. you could really tell that the one was not the other. in f3, though, the society is turned into an allegory for the 1950s. that's ham-fisted and cheap.

    Everything in Fallout 4 looks too new

    the game will no doubt be big. there will be rebuilt and untouched areas. they seem to have shown a lot of rebuilt areas. also some swampy ones that seem appropriately wrecked. i'd wait until the game is out to determine if bethesda has once again ruined everything.

    i don't think they did. i keep wondering what purpose they have in fo3, and i realize they are just there to be mooks.

    I feel Fallout 4 will be a rude awakening

    fallout 3 would have that, if it took place 200 years after the war. but for all appearances, the one we got feels like only a few years after. that's why there's salisbury steak all around, and no societal rebuilding. everything is inchoate and undeveloped. hopefully fallout 4 really does take...
