Weapons range problem (F2 but probably in F1 also)

I can't recall having that problem. Not that I've ever counted hexes... At Sierra Army Depot, outside the base there are those turrets, it's perfectly safe to shoot down 'em with the Sniper Rifle from near the shack with the Howitzer, I wager the range is around 40-50 hexes...

Weapons range problem (F2 but probably in F1 also)

It's perfectly possible to shoot up to the 50 hexes a Sniper Rifle allows... To scroll the screen just drag the cursor to the edge of the screen.

Power Armour would help of course. However, real miniguns (which come in various calibers, even in 5.56mm) have tremendous kickback, it's related to the high rate of fire (which can be as high as 6,000 SPM, that's a hundred rounds a second!). As I said, there has been a couple of prototypes but...

The mode on the assault rifles, yes. But AFAIK short bursts (trigger wasn't hold down for long) were already used in WWII... Miniguns (or gatling guns) have a high rate of fire IRL too, but they aren't manportable (there has been a couple of prototypes) and are mounted so the kickback (and...

It would destroy the gameplay. Besides, as I suspect your mentioning of 'long' range was meant to mean, the range in Fallout is shortened down very much anyway. Max range with Sniper Rifle is 50 hexes (meters!?!)... IRL you can shoot and hit people 25-50m away with a normal pistol (although the...

    Tactics - The debate Continues

Still less time than reloading... I'm talking about soldiers, anti-terrorist team members, SWAT etc., meaning experts at firearms (which the character should be when he has +100% in his choice of weaponry). At close range aiming and shooting happens very fast, unless there there is danger of...

    Tactics - The debate Continues

Really? Aiming and shooting at close range can be done in a second or two if you're proficient in firearms. Reloading on the other hand takes much more time: out with the old mag, grab new mag from belt, insert new mag, takes at least 3-5 seconds even if you're quick... Yet the AP cost for...

    Tactics - The debate Continues

TB in Fallout isn't very realistic though, does it take less time to aim and shoot than to reload a weapon? Interplay approved the game with other words. I don't fail to see it at all. I see how Power Armour does fit in. Does that mean I must love how that particular armour looks ingame (it...

    Tactics - The debate Continues

Right, well, ahem, enemies usually don't wait for your turn to shoot in RL... It was made by a different company, what would you expect? Even FO2 which was made partially by the same people as FO1 was different... It's amazing I like the atmosphere in FO games but dislike *one*...

More realistic than Fallout's combat, yes. You know, when the bullets start raining most soldiers would kiss the dirt, you can't do that in FO, you can, however do that in FO: Tactics. Realistic realistic, no. I'm not saying it's better than the system in Fallout, but it wasn't as bad as some...

    Tactics - The debate Continues

I wasn't being sarcastic. I honestly think the CTB system worked relatively good. Yes, it was fast and hectic, but do you think real combat isn't? Yes, it made aimed shots a pain in the arse, but since you could cripple foes with torso shots (if they survived the first burst that is) I went with...

    Van Buren video

Since it was in Alpha stage I'm certain the death animations would've been introduced later on... The video is merely introducing the engine and what the setting looks like. Details would've been added later on. Dialogues, quests, items and such are added after the engine works smoothly...

    [FO2] Mason doesn't give "armload"

I didn't get anything from Mason either unless it was items or money I already had in my inventory and I didn't notice. In any case I didn't get any armour. I remember that I have been given armour in an earlier game though...
