As all of you Musically Fanatical Americans know, "Soccer Mom Central" aka VH1 (5 caps if you can guess where that came from) is making its list of 100 greatest albums of all time. Well seeing from past lists, we can all guess that punk and new wave will get cut short. This brings me to another point, our good friend, the Midwest and their music. Which, to put exactly is Guns N Roses. After getting the album instead copying stuff from the radio, I noticed that they truly are a Hair Metal Band, except of the redneck variety. Which brings me to another topic: Image. By now, I’ve found that rock and roll actually runs on Image. From Elvis to Limp Bizkit, we get people who make entire careers of image. So people, read below, if you dare, since I plan to rant against everybody’s favorite bands.
This brings me to two types of music I despise, Satanic Metal (which I hate for their pretension, Okay?) and those bands that ride Grunge’s coat tails of success. First off, let me say that when I talk about these Grunge Hanger-on’s, I don’t mean Nirvana or Alice in Chains. I’m talking about those Stone Temple Pilots', Pearl Jams, and Smashing Pumpkins'. Now this is no fault of the bands themselves. This is about the record companies, who use up a lot of their happy marketing money. Which brings me to yet ANOTHER point: A lot of Grunge was a complete image. Where’s my proof? Look at Pearl Jam. They were labeled Grunge just because they were flannel. Wow… Are you gonna tell me that “Ten” sounds like Grunge? Yeah right. Now the other two (STP and TSP) aren’t that based on image, but labeling someone as Grunge just because they don’t play hair metal, pop, rap, or R and B, is just a bad idea. Ever wonder why alternative radio went into a downfall? That’s right, mis-labeling Grunge as Alternative. Now I have nothing against Nirvana, or even Pearl Jam; In Utero is blasting through my speakers right now (on Serve the Servants, if you’re that into details). This brings us to a 180-degree turn into…
… the fact that just because you’re based on image doesn’t make anything wrong with you. Punk was partially based on image, but bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash had something to back it up. That said, almost all the bands of the first punk movement had something to back up their image. Sid Vicious really did live his life like a crazy guy and those Good Old Clashers realty did believe what they were singing about. Now don't think that I'm some type of Punk Hater: Punk is one of my favorite types of music...
Now good people, I’m not flaming anyone, so if you want my musical taste, just infer dammit!!! So, post any comments, whether you think I should shut up, or you want to tell me to… shut up. So, to end this post on a high note, How About them Simpsons?
