Companion's weapon: do they lose durability or not?

I let Willow (modded companion) have my survivalist rifle. After a long time (several hundreds bullets) later I notice the gun is 75% right on edge of maintain/repair.

Now it could be that she use weapon and it lose durability like normal, though at reduced rate, because I dont notice much of that on other companion like Cass or Veronica. Although Veronica's Oh Baby! show signs of that but I am not sure. And Oh Baby used pretty frequently considering Veronica's satisfaction with it. While other weapons not that much because I like to change loadout on my girls.

Or it could be that enemies shoot at the weapons in girls' hands, though in that case it should be equally on all companion, not just one specific.


So, guys~ Do you have impressions like me? Do companions lose weapons' durability at reduced rate or not?
 
seems like every time i give boone an anti material rifle he ends up breaking it down to about 20% condition. Never noticed it with any other weapon on any other companion though.
 
Willow burn through 500 rounds with no visible decrease .

but going through some firefight in OWB with roboscorpions and her Survivalist Rifle's durability fall right down to 85%. It seems very suggestive that companion's weapon durability go down due to hits on their weapons.
 
The biggun, FIDO lose durability at alarming speed. It's highly possible that there're lots of fire coming the user's way, considering the OWB enemies' penchant for energy weapons. It's just too easy to shoot at that big ass gun.

Another thing to note is that companion doesnt seem to catch case of ammo. It's possible the Courier catch them, I wouldnt know because I keep all those cases on my inventory so I cant confirm. What I do know is that I never can get drained energy ammo or empty case of gun ammo from companion's inventory. Ergo, they dont catch them.

Therefore, it's worth considering to equip your companion with rare ammunition weapons or not. Things include: 12.7mm guns, .45-50 govt guns.

.45 caliber guns are the thing to consider, because empty case of .45 is very very easy to get from merchants. 45 super handloaded rounds and A Light in The Darkness is potent choice and easy to resupply.
