Concert tickets online

Good news. Tool is coming to town on May 13th. Time to stop believing in anything, open my third eye, and buy some concert tickets.

There's a little problem however. Last time Tool held a concert in Chicago they sold out in a matter of minutes. As far as i see it, the best way to get tickets in this situation is to buy 'em online as opposed to using the phone or waiting in some ridiculous line. Seems like ticketmaster.com is the best choice. I'm already planning on registering an account there in advance so i can save time on filling out the form when the tickets go on sale. Other than that, i'm not sure if there's any other measurers i can take that make my chances better.

What have your experiences been with buying fast going tickets? Any tips on beating the system? Other sites that might be a good backup? Malky? Dove? I'm looking in your direction.

Werl. I never had much of a problem, as a friend of mine works and worked in one of the major ticket-selling spots in the city.

Uh... Try driving ASAP to somewhere you can buy the things?

Unfortunately no, there's no good news. After today, i can't believe i even imagined having those tickets. Get this: The online tickets were sold out in about 10 seconds! I even heard that some people who camped out in front of the ticketmaster booths got screwed even worse. They waited for hours and people that were second or third couldn't get tickets since people that ordered by phone had priority (i also learned that people calling from out of state get an additional priority).

Minutes after being sold out, several tickets went up on E-bay. Average price? About $500-$600. Some even went up to $800 to $900 (the official price was $66.66 including fees)

Well, what have i learned. If you're gonna buy online, every millisecond counts. As far as i can tell, you should set your resolution to like 1600 so that you don't have to scroll down the form to hit "Look for Tickets".

Once you hit submit, have both hands ready on the keyboard so that you can enter the code words ASAP, then hit enter (and pray to Allah that you actually manage to read the fucking thing without going blind from squinting).

Trying to obtain tickets over the phone at the same time as online would have been a better strategy (especially if i had an out of state cell phone number). Another idea i just thought of was that perhaps i should have went to my University and used their much faster Internet. My DSL sure wasn't cutting it this morning. And i was so confident that all i needed to do was be prepared at 11am sharp to hit submit. Homer Simpson was right. "Trying is the first step towards failure."

So next weekend i'm just gonna listen to the radio and try to win some tickets....wishful thinking i guess.

That sucks, man. I've never really had an issue with getting tickets to the bigger concerts I go to. I guess because I don't go to too many "big" concerts. Even so, when nine inch nails came around a few weeks ago, tickets were still available the day of (not floor tickets, mind you, but the place isnt' that big anyway).

Sorry you can't see the show, KQX. I'm listening to the new record now, and man, it's amazing stuff.

funny... thats about the price for a Graspop Metal Meeting ticket for an entire weekend (and about half the price for 4 days of Rock Werchter).

Eh? No, that's 110 euros, which would be around 170 dollars right about now.

Still, 60 dollars is quite a bit, the Metallica concert here isn't even that much (and isn't sold out either, even though the tickets have been on sale for some 3 months).

well, it's 108 euros, but that includes a camping spot (per ticket), a parking spot and free public transport for fri-sat-sunday... which isnt included in most other event tickets, so i tried to substract it from it.

either way, 60$ for a single gig = ripoff. Tool aint that good...

Excuse me, no blasphemy allowed.

I never saw Tool live but everyone i know that had the chance, said it was one of their best concert experiences. They really put in the effort to make memorable performances.

Ebay update: Row B - $1,099.00

Speaking of expensive concerts, when Depeche Mode came to Chicago last year they charged $75.00

Tool really are fucking amazing live.

Sander - when I said I wouldn't pay that much for a "concert", I meant that I wouldn't pay that much to see just one band and some openers. If it was a festival, I'd be willing to pay more (depending on the lineup).

HAH! This year, the Gods were on my side. 2 Floor Tickets to see TOOL in Chicago on June 27th are mine! This is a much bigger event than last year so it isn't selling out as fast, but floor tickets were gone in like 30 minutes for sure.
