Fadein / Fadeout problem

Cya. I have troubles with fadein / fadeout. Sometimes it is so slow I have to kill fallout2 process and sometimes it's too fast. And sometimes it's (almost) OK.

I have XP SP2 / DX9.0c / AMD 64 3000+ / GF7300GT.

I'd like to know if install of Win98 will help. XP 'compatibility' does not...

I sometimes have troubles with the fadein/fadeout commands too, when dealing with scripts. I noticed that most of my troubles come from a information flow mistake when my script triggers that function upon destroying/teleporting away the script recipient... Provided your problem involves this, of course... I have win xp and dx9 too, but a Intel processor instead. No troubles under this point of view.
IF your trouble involves destroying/teleporting the script recipient, then please post a sample of your code. We'll help you the best we can.

Funny thing.. I thought this problem only occurs on linux when you use wine ...

If you can try it easily, then just install W98. I´m sometimes playing FO2 on W2k ( DX 9.0c ) without problems.

Just a thought - but perhaps this happens because of your 64 bit cpu?
 
I'm sure script is OK. Tested on different PC by my mate. And sometimes it's fading so slow even when fading loading screen. If first fade is ok then other fades are ok too...

I've asked more people and many of them have the same problem... I'm not sure Win98 will solve this...
 
I have this same problem, but ONLY when I'm listening to winamp. If I use media player classic to listen to music while I play fo1/2, then the fades are normal speed but if winamp is even open- the fades slow to a crawl. This happens no matter what kind of compatibility mode I run the exe in.

Is this relevant? Probably not...

Interesting.... I too noticed that every time I used winamp and played Fallout 2 I would have REALLY long fade effects.
 
Killap: being the bug-fixer that you are.. want to fix this? hah.

any chance you have a machine with windows 98 laying around? I'm wondering if it's a way that XP handles sound. I tried changing the output setting for winamp (still under XP) and the fade problem remained. though now that I think of it, I've played fallout in XP a lot back in 2002 - 2004 (always with winamp running) and never had this issue. Maybe it's sp2, a random_ms_update that's at fault or my changing over to a dualcore cpu. I wonder if that could be it... do you use a dualcore also?
 
I sometimes have very long fadeout in Win98 and WinXP in FO2. But sometimes. I think, that system is working at background then the long effect is present. When I wait a minute after stopping the hard discks working then fadein/fadout effect is normal.
I do not have idea what is wrong.

Heh, sorry if it is indeed a glitch of some sort, it is hardcoded.

Nope, no machine with 98. I first played Fallout under Win 2000 (or at least I think that is what I was running at the time) and I never had any fade out issues with my initial play through...then again I never used winamp and Fallout at the same time. Only when switching to XP did I experience odd fade effects. For me at least all fade effects were almost instantaneous. Didn't really bother me though. At times, however, the fades would be hella slow and take minutes to fade in and out. This really irked me. I only noticed a correlation with winamp and the slow fades when I got into modding. I would play music in the background and switch back and forth from the game to the script editor. Every time winamp was playing the fade effects would crawl like a snail. That's about all the info I can offer.

To answer your last question I am not running a dual core but a single core 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 running XP SP 2.
