Fallout 1 DAT extractors not working?

Hello NMA,

I'm interested in finding a DAT extractor to open the master file from Fallout 1. This* file listed on the downloads section says that it can extract both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 DAT files yet when I try, there is an error pop-up saying the file is not supported. I have done this in the past on a different computer that is no longer available so I don't understand what the problem is? The GUI was exactly the same on this extractor as the one I used back then or is it a different file completely? If so, could you link me

Try KA DAT Extractor, it worked fine for me:

- Copy master.dat file in a separate directory
- Put downloaded extract.exe file in the same directory
- Unmark read-only attribute on master.dat
- Run this command via batch file or command line:

extract -e master.dat

The same goes for critter.dat file.

I don't think it did anything? The CMD box popped up for a fraction of a second but I managed to take a printscreen of it. It just came up with 'Error: File Not Found'

Have I messed the instructions up?

The 3 files (master.dat, extract.exe and runme.bat) are all inside an individual folder called 'modding' on my desktop

Neither of the download files seemed to work when I run them :/

Alright, that's because you are running the default runme.bat batch file. Open the runme.bat file with some text editor, delete last four lines and replace them with this one:

extract -e master.dat

Then save file, run it again and you will be fine.
