Fallout 2 (This memory cannot be read)

Luke Warm

First time out of the vault
I had the color glitch so installed Killap's Restoration Project (since the color fix was built into the mod). I launched the game and the mod was working until I tried to load my most recent game. Then I got the error:

The instruction at 004a48ad referenced memory at 6220647
The memory could not be read

Click OK to terminate the application

Then I validated the integrity of the game's files (via steam). Which I believe it uninstalled the mod. Afterwards I got the error:

The instruction at 004a84ad referenced memory at 6220647d

Afterwards I uninstalled then re-downloaded the game and saw my old save files were still their. I clicked on one and got the error:

The instruction at 004a84ad referenced memory at 00000010
This memory could not be read

Click OK to terminate the application.

I created a new game and it worked until I stepped in the temple and the error

The instruction at 004a84ad referenced memory at 00746a68
This memory could not be created

Click OK to terminate the application.

I can't find a single solution and I'm about through my computer out the window.

It sounds like a Steam problem. Thats why I don't like to reccommend Steam to anyone.

Sorry about that.

But what I can help you do, is play Fallout 2 and fix the color problem without having to download Killap's restoration project (not saying its a bad thing, because I use it).

First things first, when you play Fallout 2

1) Bring up the color resolution screen on the control panel.

If that doesn't work, keep following these steps until it works for you. Keep the color resolution screen up each time you play anyways.

2) Change your desktop background to a solid color.

3) Mess with the color resolution until you find one that suits Fallout 2.

This worked great for me. I never had another color problem with F2 or F1.

So you are trying to load a non-RP savegame in the RP?

I would uninstall everything. Then check your Steamapps/Common/ for any leftover files. Delete them as well. If you add anything to the game, such as the RP, NEVER VALIDATE FILES.

That doesn't sound like a steam issue. I've had the same issue with GOG.com's Fallout 1 where the only mod installed was Team-X's 1.3.4 patch.
