First time out of the vault
(I'm a new user, so don't be yelling at me like dummies that I put it in the wrong forum. Just that.)
I have the first Fallout. When I load it on my lame computer which has nothing but a few MB left, Fallout runs perfectly. However, the screen is has been pushed a bit down. For example, when I started my game with a premade character, I can't see the combat area or the bar or the hotbar or whatever the heck it is. So I get killed by rats. I downloaded mods, but it does not work. Please help!

Installed on Windows 8.1 with Fallout installer.
Have downloaded mods (high resolution)
Changed compatibility mode, ran it windowed.

You say "mods", just the HiRes or anything else? Did you install the game in the default Program Files folder? That breaks the old Fallouts because they can't handle Windows file protection. If that is the case, install to a folder that isn't protected. (C:\Fallout, or whatever) Always use the largest possible installation. Then install the Hi-Res mod. If you're installing any other mods, mind that some of them may already include the Hi-Res mod so installing them on top might also break the game.
