Mr.Tboy
First time out of the vault

While the Great War wiped out most of civilization, many cities, regions, and countries were not directly affected by the Nuclear devastation. Either for diplomatic reasons or simply because they were considered to be too insignificant. Nobody expected the Arctic provinces to survive on their own after the War. But few had the time to think about what happened to them about a million American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Chinese POWs who were preparing to be transported. The Chinese and Soviet Commanders didn't even bother to attack Alaska. Except for a single ICBM to Anchorage, almost all of Alaska was spared of Nuclear hellfire.
Days following the War, panic among the soldiers and local population was widespread. As all connections to other states were cut and the Nuclear Winter started to show itself, Alaska descended into total Anarchy. Some soldiers formed warbands, raiding and killing for any other remaining resources. While the Chinese POWs broke free and started reorganizing with the remnants.
Amidst the carnage, the Governor of the Province of Alaska Adrien Newton, cooperated with remaining loyal Generals to bring order back to the region. Establishing an HQ at Fairbanks, declaring the Independence of Alaska.
Newton had created a militaristic society to dominate the remaining logistic supplies. Towns who weren't completely overrun sought refuge under him. As everyone thought the worst was over, the Chinese remnants relaunched their military Campaign and the newly formed Alaskan found itself in a War Attrition, even after the Great War already ended.
As the war went on, the people of Alaska become even more anxious. As bodies piled, rations wore thin, Radiated Snow covered the ground, hatred grew, and hostility spread. It wouldn’t be long before the conflict turned into a Racial War. While the Government became more and more Totalitarian day by day, imposing total martial law to preserve the functionality of Supply lines.
The Chinese were extremely well-motivated, even in comparison to the Fascist enemy. Some were here for over a decade, and they didn’t forget the things they saw. Knowing that their families back at home were already dead, they had nothing to lose and were prepared to fight to the last man, which they did.
After years of fighting, the Chinese forces were completely terminated, thanks to the massive arsenal left over by the U.S. army. By then, Alaska was at a point of no return. Completely alone, and the only thing left to do was to keep the small light of hope alive, amidst the storms of the Nuclear Winter.
As time went on, Adrien Newton found new ways to make this nation function more efficiently while fighting the difficulties. Building new supply lines, mass-energy conveyance, the struggle against radiation, and demographic problems caused by the endless war. He always came out with Triumph after Triumph. “Hail Alaska!” people screamed in pride, guided by the light of Newton.
Newton ruled Alaska for 60 years and despite all odds, Alaska survived. Most outlaws defected to the Republic, knowing survival would be impossible outside of it. His death however changed little. At that point, every commander knew any attempt at power grab would completely destabilize the country. For over a century Alaska functioned as a Totalitarian Dictatorship, built on one purpose; Survival.
But as the Country entered the 23rd century, the effects of the Nuclear Winter started to ease down, rules were loosened, expeditions were sent, in search of other survivors. Started with little expectations, resulted in most unforeseen surprises. In 2219, as scouts kept going to the North to scavenge from the presumably abandoned ancient military bases, they were shocked to see that the bases were not only still functional but even prosperous. As they tried to approach the bases they were met with hostility, heavily armed man threatened them to do not "trespass government property", while the group of scouts tried the explain that they were from a newly founded country. The attitude of the guards was suddenly changed. They brought them to the base for questioning, as the scouts started explaining everything in utter excitement to the man in heavy armor, their attitude changed even further and started to treat them very kindly. They accommodated them for 3 days in comfort, receiving even more information while giving them very little. By the end of 3 days, the man in heavy armor had enough information to map out the entire Alaskan Republic. While bidding their farewells, one of the scouts asked them about their future relationship, the man in armor told them they shall "visit you as soon as possible".
You were born in this once naval military base, which is now a hotspot for icebreakers. You were trained to become the perfect soldier as far you remember, which you always aspired to be. What life to you, came back and forth between the steel walls and the training grounds. You have dedicated your whole life to the rebirth of the American Republic, while your parents expected nothing else, and after 20 years of training, today you will take part in a real mission for the first time.
As you hop on to the Vertibird, the Commander passed out documents of the Operation. The cover of the document said it all, highlighted in red letters. "THE CLEANSING OF FAIRBANKS"...
Little did they know, Alaska shall not go without a fight
