Fallout2 Barter Bug

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Win98, US Version 1.02

I've finished this game many times before and never run into this bug before. I've only been to Klamath, the Den, Vault City and Gecko. When I try to buy stuff, he other party will not accept the trade, even if I offer much more than he wants for his stuff. Even if I try to barter away everything I have in my inventory, which amounts to a bit over ten grand, my 'offer is not good enough'. It often works to buy things one at a time, using only money for payment, but that's tedious and money is scarce.

I tried starting over the game, and I got the same thing again, at exactly the same point. Both times it kicked in right after I got myself the car. It is infuriating. Why have I not experienced this before? The only things that are different from the previous times I've played this game are that now, both these two times, I picked a pre-made character without making any adjustments, and that I set combat difficulty to rough instead of normal.

I can't play the game like this. I rely heavily on bartering. And I rely heavily on my car.

Anyone?

Well, off the top of my head, there was this problem in Fallout (though I don't remember if it continued into Fallout 2) where certain items would NEVER be accepted in a barter (these items included such things as the motion sensor and the stealth boy), though they were given a value in money. The whole trade would NOT be accepted if the item was offered.

One of your items might carry this bug...

Funny you should mention that. :D

Because our dear beloved Per was stuck on this problem for months with no end in sight.

And it took me a month to explain things to the man while he tries to do the impossible. Make a perfect walkthrough for FO2.

The old jokes he always says is that "Yeah, every time I found something, you will come in and say we old folks already knew this. So tell us something we don't know grasshopper.".

LOL
