Faster downloads

I have a dial up connection and my downloads are very slow. I know there are a lot of download accelerators out there but which one do you guys think is best? ANd do accelerators work when you are using a program like audiogalaxy or any other file sharing program or do accelerators only work when you download from the net?

Well since i mentioned audiogalaxy: I've been using it for my mp3 needs but i'm having some problems with it lately, so what would be another nice mp3 (or file sharing) program?

If you're using a dial-up connection an accelerator will do nothing for you. "Accelerators" establish multiple connections with a server that will only send data at a speed slower than your current speed. By establishing multiple connections and piecing the file parts together, a person's bandwidth use is maximized and the file is downloaded as fast as the downloader's bandwidth can handle.

The only benefit a person that has a dial-up connection would receive from these download accelerators is that they usually come with the feature that you can download part of the file now and resume it later. Programs like Getright were originally designed with that in mind and the acceleration part came secondary.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-01 AT 08:58AM (GMT)[p]Well, that may be true, but it's still way better downloading with an accelerator ( I use FlahGet http://www.amazesoft.com ), since you can resume, pause and organise your downloads. Which you can't using the IE-download function. And I think it does accelerate downloads on telephone lines (albeit not as much as wtih, say, cable)
