PS3 Network is adding tools to systems to allow custom modification of games, Starting with Unreal Tournament 3. Also, adding Linux games support.

I think this is a positive direction. If consoles in the future have the ability for customization like those of PCs, then PCs themselves could be in all, disposed of. Odd thing is, Sony is the one pushing for their console to be able to be modded software and hardware wise, while Microsoft is trying to stop personal modification of the XBOX360. Also, the PS Network is free of charge, unlike Xbox Live. Seems like Sony has some very interesting plans for the future, Trying to attack the Gates empire from behind...

*Edit* For clarification, instead of PCs being phased out, I should of stated that consoles will become PCs themselves. Giving everyone access to equally powerful hardware, universal tech support for systems, and console prices. With upgrade and modification capabilities.....

Banned.

Double-Banned for a misleading title. It should read "good news for people who give a shit about consoles".

I was waiting for that to happen

And here I was thinking that, with a thread title like that, this had to be about that new Duke Nukem Forever trailer. Ripoff!

If consoles become PCs eventually, that just means PCs assimilated consoles in the end, proving it is the superior platform. Maybe when that happens the consoles will go back to their roots and start all over again with cartridges.
I suspect Nintendo will lead the retro movement of the console market if they're still alive then.

Nintendo has been around for more or less a 100 years. They won't vanish that easily.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Started as a trading card company or something right?

...What is happening here?! I'm so puzzled that I'm trying to contemplate the ol' saying, across the street or down the alley while staring at my wrists!

Go Sony really, I can not abide by Microsoft's plans at global domination... Never mind the fact that I own a 360...

Gah I refuse to own a brick, I have a DC and a PS2, contemplating a 3, however I still love my computer to bits, and tinker with it whenever it needs a bit of work.

As for the modding, what Sony's trying to do is instead of letting them go all willy nilly with their mods, giving them an option that won't void their warranty and also control their ability to create mods that unlock or stop the system from reading the protection ring on the PS3 disks.

As for the free network bit, power to them, so long as it's only a lobby system and the machines directly connect to each other (like Battle.net) otherwise the load will be too heavy for Sony's servers to cope.

At least I'm not the only one who sees M$'s attempt to break into the console market as an attempt at world domination...
