Killzone 2

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Not sure how many PS3 owners we have on this forum but I am going to give this a whirl anyone.

First for those who do not know anything about the game:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26742309&page=0

Ninja-Hippo made a wonderful thread that has info, links, gifs, videos, etc.

Anyways, many thought this day would never come but it appears our wait will soon be rewarded. Feb 27th is the set release date for North America iirc. I also think Europe gets it a couple days before.

The games call to fame of course is the visuals. From what I am reading in pre-reviews and from Beta players however we are in for a real treat gameplay wise as well.

You know you have something special when even the competetion says nice things about you.

"It’s good. Really good in fact. this is the genre that has belonged to the 360 since its inception, but it finally looks like Sony has an Ace in its deck. Visually, Killzone 2 is quite something - besting even Gears 2 in the motion-blurred grey battleground stakes, and the weight and purpose of everyting from the weapons to the characters is somethign to behold. Most importantly, though, it’s really satisfying to play."

Anyways enough of my rant, this will be a day one buy for me. Is anyone else as excited as I am?

edit: Also here is a couple of vids I enjoy. The first is called "The Ballet of Death" and the second is just a trailer I think is called "Helghan"

Indeed it is.

I could leave that Ballet of Death video on loop and still be amazed.

The graphics are pretty, but it honestly looks like it has the most generic of art design. The first killzone sucked MAJOR balls.

Im guessing that the villians are either a organized group of aliens or some sort of goverment dictatorship. I bet you that the main character is some white guy with short brown hair or bald.

Yea, this game gives me the impression of a game in which all funds and production was put towards making the best graphics EVARRR.

The gameplay/locations look bleh.

Normally I would agree on all points that it is all hype on the graphics like the first Killzone.

However unlike the first Killzone this game has already been played extensively in Beta and the entire solo campaign has already been sent out to reviewers. The game is getting massive amounts of praise for the graphics as well as gameplay.
As I said before, you know you have something great when the competition says such nice things about you. :P

The only real complaint I have heard from several sources so far is the lack of offline campaign co-op. That really does not bother me as much because I care more for Team Death Match type deals in FPS shooters anyway.

I was also worried that the sniper rifle six axis controls would not work right but previewers/beta testers are saying it is very rewarding to use and you feel like you accomplished more when you get a head shot.

If no one read that part basically when you are in the scope mode for your sniper rifle, you can tilt the controller a direction and the scope will start to shift in the direction your tilting . So do not have shaky hands while sniping.

Anyways I cannot wait, I am interested in the solo campaign but my the multiplayer I think is where this game will really shine for me. They seem to have put a lot of work into it with the tournament/clan betting system and I think the way skills work with mixing badges will be really neat for customization.

Now I just have to decide if I want to pre-order from Gamestop and get the demo code or pre-order from Amazon and get Helghast/ISA outfits for Home.

Multiplayer classes.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38548.html

That is the multiplayer trailer. It shows some of the features/fighting.

When I have more time to dig around the system wars forums I will post the video a guy in Beta made. It was basically him just going around doing random firefights and helping out team members but the gameplay looks amazingly addictive.

I'm not terribly impressed. Looks like yet another game designed by people who thing greys, browns, blacks, dynamic lighting, and particle effects make a good game. Sure, the graphics are really nice technically but they're just so damn boring...

Perhaps you should go to Helghan and persuade them to plant some trees? :P

I am not sure if your familiar with the Killzone story but the place is a barren wasteland that cannot normally support human life. The Helghast had to adapt to the environment. It also goes along with the gas mask they all where.

I am glad you can at least give it praise technically even if you do not like the art style. You would be amazed at how many people cannot separate the two.

The graphics are what is getting all the hype from most people. Currently I am the most excited about getting my hands on the multiplayer tho.

Oh I always seperate a game's graphics being technically impressive and artistically/aesthetically impressive. Look at Fallout, Arcanum, Jagged Alliance, X-com, etc. All dated graphics, but I still love the graphics.

I understand the environment and such, but regardless the color scheme of the locale is just very inconsistent with the game itself. I really only liked this color scheme in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. because I really got the feeling of being in a place that was dead and forgotten, whereas Killzone just has so much war and crap going on I'd like to see some more color and excitment going on in the color scheme. Also, I'm always suspicious of new games, particularly big name ones, ones that have great graphics, or ones that don't look particularly original. Killzone 2 unfortunately has all those traits. But hey, for all I know this game is going to turn out great and be very original, but my hopes aren't too high.

Yes we will just have to wait and see. I know it will be a solid title, the question is will it "stick" and be something memorable?

In all my optimism I am going to call the score at AAA which by system war standards would be 9.0-9.5

Right now I can see the lack of co-op bringing peoples scores down a bit. A bit silly because I do not think a game should be judged on the standard that "every FPS must have co-op!" but oh well nothing I can do.

Hopefully the multi-player makes a big enough impression.

Well barring my bias against console shooters (I can't use the analog controls in FPS games for shit) I'd rate it anywhere from a 7 to an 8.5 depending on how good the gameplay is. For all I know it could end up being AAA and be a classic but that would be a bit of a stretch for me.

Well I post on System Wars a lot and the only scores that "officially" matter there are Gamespot ones. So my scoring might be a tad bit different than yours.

Normally I would say an 8-8.5 would be an awesome must buy title. Currently going by the official hype it must score at least a 9.0 or be considered a flop.

Resistance 2 pulled it off, so maybe KZ2 can.

Well my scoring basically puts 5 as absolutely average and completely mediocre, with 7 being possibly worth a purchase, and 8 definitely being worth a look. 9 and 10 are standout games. anything below a 5 ranks from sub-par to garbage.

I would say that is a fair system. Only in system wars would an 8.9 be considered a flop. :P

Sometimes I wonder if I should not completely forget about that place, post like this make me lean towards I should.

Topic: I was Gonna Buy the PS3 this Week But...

"I Decided not too, i looked at the overall package on the PS3, and Quiet honestly it's looking Bad..And i mean badBadd.Everytime i play games on the 360 i say to myself" why is MS the greatest console makers in the World"...I was slightly interested in MGSIV, but my friend told me not too get because it's a movie..So i didn't get it.

The more i look at the PS3's lineup i'm in utter sicking how bad of load of crap exclusives they have..and don't get me started with that the dang Blu-Ray!!!!...God bless Microsoft, God bless Bill gates...The Xbox brand is here too stay and Ain't noone Gonna hold us down..."

Yeah, I tend to mostly base purchases on gameplay videos as well. I tend not to always agree with gamespot scores, and I've picked up a few 7's that I've absolutely loved.

And yeah, that topic is pretty awful.

That's why I use gamefaqs. Much more intelligent and reasonable. /sarcasm

I would normally agree that graphics a good game do not make, but this is just so slick. I've never seen a game this well animated, it looks like a CG movie. Maybe the trailers are just that, but if they're not, this is a really brilliant looking game, and if the FPS elements are good enough, that's all this needs to be hella fun.

Intro to the first Killzone.

It was meant to give you the dictator/Nazi vibe.

[spoiler:99b2907583]It was hinted at in the first however that the Helghast might not really be the "bad" guys after all. A video preview/review I saw a couple weeks ago on game night had a guy talking who had played the ending levels of the solo campaign.

He also backed it up saying by the end of the game you will be questioning if the Helghast are really the evil ones.[/spoiler:99b2907583]

and yes Emperor Scolar Visari is bald. However that does not mean much considering all Helghast are bald. The harsh environment of Helghan changed them physically.

There is a nice clip of him at the end of that video.

"They will know, Helghan... belongs to the Helghast "

Australia, November 19, 2008 - Ah Killzone 2... what won't you do to try and fool us, you little minx. First you feed us that CG trailer and try to subtly pass it off as real footage. Pfft. What did you take us for?

Then, once the little CG rouse was up, you tried to claim that, despite the fact your trailer wasn't actually in-game footage, that the final game would actually run and play like said trailer. Ooh, we'll believe it when we see it Mister Sony man.

And now you've thrown this beta our way – surely yet another wily piece of propaganda, you trickster dickster! Sure, we're pushing buttons, wiggling analogue sticks - and stuff is happening on screen as a result – but this isn't the actual game, surely! There's no way a console game can look this good, right - what sort of foul wizardry is this?

This can't be real. It simply can't be. Sony and Guerrilla Games couldn't have created an end result that (almost) matches the infamous target footage revealed at E3 all those years ago. Could they?

Well, unless our dainty little peepers are deceiving us, the answer to that question is 'yes'. Guerrilla Games have made an absolute red hot go of trying to match up to the incredible CG footage shown in 2005. Because undoubtedly, when you first hop into the small scale beta currently doing the rounds, the first thing you notice (and by notice we mean the synapse connected to your retina splinters into a thousand microscopic pieces) is Killzone 2's mighty visual prowess.

This game's graphics do look good but I definitely agree that it could be more colorful. As far as I know though, it's taking place on Helghast planet so maybe there is a reason that makes sense.

What really bothers me though is that Killzone did indeed suck major balls. In order to be a good game, this game needs to be VERY different and how different can its sequel be? Gametrailers preview also mentions that you basically fight wave after wave of these helghast soldiers, which was the problem with the first game, there was so very little variety and it got boring very fast. I'll wait for reviews before I pick it up.
