Check out the October issue of Discover magazine for an article on the resurgence of the good old American bomb shelter. Really cool pics! Unfortunately its not online so you'll have to buy it. Maybe I'll scan one of the more interesting pics.

I found the photographer's site, very cool stuff! Apparently there is a good sized subculture in the US for people building their own bomb-shelters. The downside is that most people aren't anticipating staying longer than 1 year.
