Mac Users/Modders?

VirtualAlex

Still Mildly Glowing
Hi I am a mac user, running system OS X 4.2. I just downloaded the JonaMod100a.full. it's contains many mods, and the readme says it's really good, and it's rated 9.88 out of 10. But it seems to be very buggy. I barely got out of the temple without it freezing up. It seems that some of the items added to the temple (Knife, throwing knife, night stick) can't be used. Trying to use them will result in a crash. I think this is because the tribal outfit, was never given the proper animations to use these items. I am a little afraid to waste much time playing the game if it's going to keep crashing at the rate it has been, but since i got my vault 13 suite, it hasn't crashed once.

So are there any mac users here, that have been succsesfully using this mod? Confirm or dispell my fears please.

that is the excact reason, you can keep playing, but remember, as allways when you play fallout(2) you have TEN save slots. Use them!

Yeah I know, but I am afraid I didn't isntall the patch correctly. the instructions are... prooly written at best. Are you a mac user?

I'm no mac user but I want to know if there is a "strong" Fallout MAC community or is Fallout not that popular on Mac?

ATM we're thinking about bringing IanOut to Mac too, but we'll need MAC experts to realize that. So it would be good to know if the "audience" is big enough for the invested time. :)

Well I know one other person than me who loves fallout as much as me. But I only know 2 other people with mac. So I guess 2/3 in my mac community love fallout.

Back on topic though, I have been trying to re-install fallout, and re-install the patch and I can't even get it to work. I would love some coherent instructions on this.

Here is a copy of the instructions, if someone could make sense of them for me I would appreciate it.

A. Extract the whole archive into a safe place (NOT into the Fallout2 Folder!)

B. Locate your "Fallout2" Application
From the Menu choose show package!
Then copy the CONTENTS of the "APP" folder into that new window!

C. Locate the following folder:

"OSX users <your user> library application_support fallout2"

D. Create a new "data" folder in the above window (C), so it looks like this:

"OSX users <your user> library application_support fallout2 data"

Copy ALL data below the dara folder from the umpacked archive into this
new folder!

E. You MUST set the protect flag on all files in thr data:proro folder !!!!
Otherwise all these files will be deleted before being used !

F. Finally - start your game! It should work properöy now!

Mostly I have no clue what a "protect flag" is on any files.

I have no clue neither what it looks like on MAC, but it's a property of a file that prohibits it from being written (or overwritten)

Well I suppose that could be "lock" of course I can't be sure... Well I suppose I will get back to goofing with it.

Protection

I'm a Mac user, and I'd love to get more involved in sustaining a Fallout 2 community, but I've played it so many times my interest runs more toward modding, and unfortunately there aren't any Fallout modding tools for OSX (none that I've found, at least). There are a couple of save game editors, but that's it.

If I'm wrong, and there are some OSX tools out there, I would appreciate it if some one could point me in the right direction.

As for protecting files, I would assume that means locking them. This can be done through the Get Info pop-up screen for the file in question.
