Well, I watched the video and heard the music, so I guess I'm entitled to an informed opinion.
First of all: I might as well be honest and tell you that what I heard is not my kind of music. I like Radiohead and Sparklehorse and fifties popsongs. I like Eels and Pavement and Beck. So no, I did not like the song at all, but I do have to admit I've heard far worse. It's crazy what you youngsters listen to these days. It's crazy and dangerous, but primarily crazy. Having said that, the quality of the recording is great and it has guitars in it. Guitars are always a good thing because everything becomes better when you add guitars. Take sex. Or solitude. Both become instantly better once you add guitars. Or take solitary sex and now add guitars. Boom! It's turned into a solitary orgy! Guitars are always a bonus. It's a fact of life and it's probably in the Bible somewhere.
Secondly: the video. Again I immediately have the feeling that this is pretty professional work. As in: this wasn't shot with a webcam. And: the person who made this knows how to operate a camera. The opening shots are all great, for instance, and I like the setting and the scenery. But the use of light is boring and amateurish. I kept wondering why anyone would want to shoot this video on what seems to be a summer day. When I hear that voice and I see those characters and the ruins they inhabit, all I can think of is darkness, shadows, dirt and fog. Instead we get a colourful, sunny video of what you call a 'close dystopian apocalyptic future, raiders, junkies etc.' That just doesn't work too well, in my opinion. Take the portrait shot at 1:31. That's how you want to look on your driver's license, no? Where's the dramatic lighting? This guy actually has to move his eyes in a certain way to add some character to his character, a thing so easily accomplished with the right lighting. The whole video suffers because of this. It is also way too clean. The only thing that's dirty on any of these characters are the soles of their shoes. The whole setting makes me think of bad odours, dust, dirt, sweat and grit, but apart from some holes in some pantyhoses, these people are amongst the most hygienic 'raiders, junkies etc.' I have ever seen. Even their bandages are clean. Imagine that. This makes their outfits appear to be nothing more than costumes, surely not something you were striving for? I see fashionistas, while I should be seeing 'raiders, junkies etc.'
Also: I was disappointed to see that the cleavage at the beginning of the vid belongs to ... a dude. Disappointed and a little disgusted , but that was entirely my own fault.
Oh, and of course you get bonus points for the use of fire. Fire is like the guitar of natural phenomena. I'm serious. Everything becomes instantly better when some fire is added.
