Marvel Cinematic Universe

Think it goes something like this:
2010:
"Oh cool, Marvel are making a cinematic universe, so it's like their comics and everything is connected!"
2016:
"Ugh, Marvel made the cinematic universe just like their shitty comics with retarded crossover crap and general blandness"
 
I like Marvel and their movies and I appreciate that they are giving the spotlight to lesser characters, but it's set a really bad trend meaning for the next ten years, we're essentially going to get the same films again and again.

Neat idea when they were just building to the Avengers, feels tired by the time they are building to Avengers 3.
 
Hell, to me the biggest problem with the cinematic universe is that there is a big overarching story that won't be concluded for fucking YEARS. I'm fine with a tv-show or a comic that goes on and on with continuity cause it has regular releases but with the films there is too much of a gap inbetween the characters and the storyline. A tv-show may only get a yearly release but it has like 10+ episodes usually which means 10x40=400 minutes=6.6 hours of story. Whereas films are usually at most 3 hours long. So if I'm interested in the storyline of Iron Man the most then there will be a BIG gap inbetween the storyline.

Take the current crossover event in Marvel comics, Civil War 2. I haven't read any of it because I want to read it all chronologically when I can read the full story. I want to be able to sit down and go through the story on my own. When there is a BIG gap between the story moments it means I will forget things. I won't remember all the little details of Iron Man 1 or 2 or even 3 by the time of the next avengers film and I don't really want to rewatch all the films over and over again just so I can brush up my memory on the events and character development.

But yeah the films are getting pretty predictable now though. They've always been that way but at least it used to be kinda neat to finally see something other than Spider-Man and X-Men getting to the big screen. Hell, I never had any interest in Captain America or Iron Man until I saw the films. But at this point the novelty has worn off and it just feels like the status quo. Deadpool was fun to watch because despite following just as rigid of a story structure as other super hero films at least it had other things to make up for it. Such as gore, actual swearing, jokes that suit my taste and a walking talking scrotum as the lead.

It's a nice idea that unfortunately is too afraid to really do anything 'big'. Character development also feels like it has been brushed off to the side. I think the reason it has gotten worse is because just like the comics they are so focused on everything being the BIG NEXT THING, everything has to end up being this epic super-clash of something. I prefer it when it is a bit more down to earth.
 
The stuff I liked about Marvel's comics were stuff like Chris Claremont's X-Men, the storyline that seemed to go on forever and amble all over the place. Can't recreate that stuff in a movie. I guess they can do stuff like the first Spiderman movie where Spidey fought against Green Goblin, short confined stories.
 
I don't think any of us can. Claim any of the movies in the MCU were truly bad. The incredible hulk was mediocre and everyone hates Thor 2 for some unknown reason but... I think they've all been at least decent. Shame DC can't make a movie to save their lives. (Actually man of steel is waaay better than most seem to believe).
 
The formula has grown stale since they have the whole "infinity gem" story wrapping up. Once it finishes they can try doing something a little less formulaic. Plus people are tired of origin stories. Doctor Strange had his ripped off by Batman Begins so it looked even more generic, despite being a pretty solid flick. Good thing Spider-man won't have to worry about that.

I would count on them shaking things up considerably after Phase Three. The way things are now we could conceivably see something huge like Maximum Carnage, Secret Wars, Secret Invasion, Midnight Sons, or something more personal like Avengers Disassembled, Clone Saga, something with Kang, Galactus, FF4, or Annihilation. They dropped Inhumans from their movie lineup, now shifting them to a a tv feature strangely enough. No doubt due to Spidey being added to the MCU.

They need new heroes to replace Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and even Iron Man. You can only have them interacting so often before it get old. Same reason they change the teams up all the time in the comics. Now would be a good time to break out the Thunderbolts with them secretly being the villains, while the Avengers are off Earth fighting Thanos.
