The greatest shock in Germany since that fateful night when Kaiser Wilhelm left his spiky helmet on the bedroom floor instead of the night table and then later went to get a midnight snack.

A delayed Y2K bug has bitten hard at some 30 million holders of German debit and credit cards, making it impossible for them to use automatic teller machines and point-of-sale terminals since New Year’s Day.

Multiple news agencies said the outage stemmed from card chips that couldn’t recognize the year 2010. The DSGV, an association representing German banks, said engineers were working diligently to fix the problem, but a full resolution might not come until Monday.

The outage affected 20 million EC, or electronic cash, cards, which act as debit cards, and 3.5 million credit cards, according to the DSGV. A separate bank association known as BDB said about 2.5 million of its cards suffered from the same problem and another 4 million cards issued by Germany’s cooperative banks were at least partially touched.

Technically, it's a Y2KX Bug, innit?

MMX bug. (like the processors, they ran HL1 & CS beta like mad though zomg!)

As in Pentium 2?

I wake up nights in cold sweats thinking about those gargantuan, horizontal, plastic monstrosities.

God, it's like looking back at bellbottoms and butterfly collars from the Disco era.

"Y2KX"?

"Yo dawg, I heard you like millenium bugs so I put a millenium bug in your millenium bug so you can crash your processor while you crash your processor"?

nah, the first MMX procs were still in the Pentium I family.

Mine was a Pentium I 200Mhz MMX. clocked it to 300Mhz. coupled with a Monster 3DII 12Mb vidram gfx card, HL1 and CS beta looked so FUCKING sweet. shit was so cash, man. ;)
still have it out of sentiment (amongst other things, it was the first piece of equipment i bought with my own cash instead of my parents'), but clocked at normal rates again. hasn't been on in what? a decade?

it was my best clocking CPU, together with my 468 (66 to 99Mhz Turbo! lawl, easy mode) and my current Core 2 Duo that also clocks to a 50% gain in Mhz (without home made mobo mods, but with a decent OC mobo, i might add).

had a Slot A from AMD after my Pentium I 200Mhz MMX. still have it, somewhere.
was just as bad as the Intel stuff, in the XBRICK huge department. :)

clocked thatone from 600Mhz to 800Mhz. fried two mobos trying to go higher with volt mods.

@ SuAside - You mean 486 right ? ;)

I also have some new-old sentimental stuff like 2500+ mobile BARTON, overclocking on socket A was sweet ...

I have a 286,386 and 486 collecting dust. I have memories of keen on those machines. I still remember how i was excited the day i got my first Pentium.
