Another one busted.
Wow...if they have to do a special investigation in order to figure out someone is not only taking bribes, but is also war profiteering, we're going to be here a while as they get a clue about each and every in Congress that is fucking up. I wonder when they'll get a clue about the president, vice-president, most of the cabinet, the defense policy board...oh, well fuck, there goes just about the entire Executive Branch and likely a surprising number of Congress. This also includes the Senator from Alabama (IIRC) that is openly committing felonious support of illegal immigrants, in particular Mexican illegals and anyone else able to get the Wetback ID.
Both parties have this problem now, and I have to wonder to what extent. The Executive Branch is already confirmed as corrupt, the Judicial branch is being packed, and Congress looks like it's going through a little witch-hunting session.
Damn, shall we keep a list? If more are indicted, then we just might have to...
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-Calif.) announced today he would immediately resign from Congress after pleading guilty to conspiracy and tax evasion charges and admitting that he had accepted bribes in exchange for legislative favors.
"I'm resigning from the House of Representatives because I've compromised the trust of my constituents," Cunningham said after his appearance at a San Diego courthouse.
"When I announced several months ago that I would not seek reelection, I publicly declared my innocence because I was not strong enough to face the truth," Cunningham said, tearing up briefly as he spoke. "The truth is I broke the law, concealed my conduct and disgraced my high office."
In pleading guilty, Cunningham admitted receiving $2.4 million bribes from four un-named co-conspirators that came in various forms, including cash, rugs, antiques, yacht club fees, vacation expenses and a Rolls Royce, according to a Justice Department release. In exchange, Cunningham agreed to "influence the appropriations of funds and the execution of government contracts."
Cunningham said he had asked his lawyers to notify U.S. Attorney Carol Lam of his intention to plead guilty so that he could begin serving his prison term.
"The citizens who elected Mr. Cunningham assumed that he would do his best for them," Lam said in a statement. "Instead, he did the worst thing an elected official can do -- he enriched himself through his position, and violated the trust of those who put him there."

Cunningham's announcement comes as the Justice Department continues to pursue its investigation into whether former Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff illegally influenced members of Congress and while Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), the former majority leader, continues to battle charges in the Lone Star State that he illegally used corporate donations to influence statehouse races in 2002.
On the Democratic side of the aisle, Rep. William Jefferson's (La.) offices were raided by the FBI earlier this year as part of an ongoing federal probe.
