Pigs can obviously fly: Black Mesa is coming

A bit excited too, I suppose. I don't think I'll be playing this though - Half-Life was far too long for me to consider replaying it.

I'm guessing it's only a graphics update - no content removed/added, but I've heard rumors there's some other change as well.

It's supposed to be more than just a graphics update. Some parts are quite different, or so they claim.
Note that the first release is without Xen, and that Xen will be more or less another game. And no, it won't take another eight years for them to finish Xen :D

Yes, they changed quite a lot stuff. It is not just a simple "new models"-mod.

n September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core.
On september 14th you will see the first release of my massive boner. Fuggin sweet shit right here, excited as hell

I have never really got into Half-Life mods. Kinda odd considering it is one of my favorite FPS series. This is very tempting...

What's the point?

If you change canon material it's not really half-life anymore?

Why not make a new game with a new story based on the source engine?

I just don't get it.

I get Ultima remakes since the games have horrible graphics (hard on the eye) - they just use better graphics and don't change anything- that's awesome.

But change things? What's the point of a "remake" then?

Because people wanted to play Half-Life in pretty. That's what started it. Over time, the team decided to change other things and such and one lead to the other...

Now you got a modern Half-Life with lots of new features and expanded maps 'n stuff.

After 8 years of development NOW they decide to go with episodic releases. This proves the motivation to complete what they started is long gone. You will sooner see DNF2 than the rest of Black Mesa.

This is actually what I predicted they would do when I called the 2009 release date failure. For the past three years Black Mesa fans/apologists and members of their own team attacked me for daring suggest such a blasphemous idea.

It's about time...MR has only taken 10 years. :look:

This is going to be awesome.

I hope this motivates those guys working on stalker in cryengine.

Been waiting some time for this. I didn't know they also changed the levels. Well, it's going to introduce some variety at least. I could almost recite that game by heart, even if my last playthrough was about 3 years ago.

Sucks that it doesn't ship complete, but I figure we can't complain about free stuff. This looks like a pretty massive piece of work, HL is a long game.

Mayhaps once it's over they can do Opposing Force? I always thought it was a great game too. Dat machine gun of instant death.

I see your boner and raise you one of my own. We just have to be careful not to cross the <strike>streams</strike> boners. It would be bad. Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and all the quaffer in your body exploding at the speed of light.

What the hell is wrong with you? And why the hell are you excited when you won't be playing it?

I think there won't be any changes to the story. I've read that some sections that felt too long for playtesters will be shortened and stuff like that.

I'm excited because the wait has been long and people finally get to play it. You know, my ego isn't overblown, I try to feel for other pe...eps out there as well. Source is a fun engine to watch, after all.

It's out, btw. Anyone played it yet? I just returned to my PC, so I'll be playing it tomorrow.

It is pretty good. Very well done and of high quality (especially for a mod). Also it is free, so everyone who is able to download 3gb can check it out. No other source game required.
