Question about the water merchants...

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
I recently talked to those water greedy, money grabbing people in the hub after realising i didn't have enough time left to get the water chip from the ghouls. So, against my will, i decided to buy my self some time.

However, after some small talk i was told that the caravan could leave a clear trail to and from Vault13.

I was just wondering if anything can come of this. For instance mutants or raiders attacking the vault?

Something does come from it, the 100 days added to your time to find the waterchip are substracted from the number of days you have to stop the mutants. So instead of having 500 days to stop ther muties, you have 400.
 
Oh, i didn't even know their was a time limit to stopping the mutants and errr sorry for posting this in the wrong forum...
