really need help

okay, i really need some help here, ive read all the tutorials by Coljack, but for some reason
(maby my own stupidity) i just dont get it how im supposed to create and edit protos,
and adding new maps to fallout2...........can somebody help me out ? please (beging on knees) im one of MRs
mappers, so i would rrreally love to se how my maps work with the mod........
and if any of the MR crew read this: if i managed that proto stuff, i would be able to help out with some art work
to, as im a very good drawer......
 
To edit protos you just need to edit the mapper2.cft line from librarian=0 to librarian=1. Then all you have to do is start the mapper, place or select any critter then click edit, from there you can change a lot of stuff, or you can make new protos by going to the end of the critter list(in the mapper) and choose an empty one, then click edit. It's that simple. :D
 
yeah......i sorta know, but im having problems with errors like: error saving protos......that kinda stuff, and ofcourse i dont know wich folders i need to make
 
I forgot to tell you, you need to make the following:
\fallout2\dev\proto\items\
..............................\critters\
..............................\misc\
..............................\scenery\
..............................\tiles\
..............................\walls\

and also:
\fallout2\data\proto\items\
<same as above>
It's all in the manual. The error you mentioned happens when you don't have all the folders.

We (me and a guy who goes by Pillbrain) were looking for an artist to help us out, we posted on Interplay and DAC, but what we're doing isn't very big or anything, we're just screwing around. So if in the future you're free please contact us, unless you signed a life contract with MR, which I doubt.
 
well if i just could manage that proto editing/creating stuff, then im in, cos its not like im using *all* my time on MR (but MR is first priority if there is some collishions)............

but the maps , how do i set them out on the world map?????

well as I posted under the artist wanted thing, it is a fairly large project, it isnt exactly just faff, but there isnt that much art stuff we really need done, just a few splash screens and some world map stuff, + perhaps a few pipboy image changes, nothing to much, if your still interested, e-mail me

well, now i am 100% sure that the folders are right, BUT, when ive made a new proto (by clicking on the empty spot at the end of the object bar, i get the error saving protos message..........now whats wrong? and is the stuff i the data/proto/critters, items, etc. supposed to be (name).pro, or (name).frm, cos it says por on my computer but in the tutorial he(coljack i think) talks about frm's :?: :?: ............... :help: ...............HELP ME; PLEASE!!!!!!!!! :wall:
 
this folder tree should start in main (c:\) disk folder.
Like this:
c:\fallout2\dev\proto\items\
..............................\critters\
..............................\misc\
..............................\scenery\
..............................\tiles\
..............................\walls\

Prototype files are named with *.pro extension.
 
i talk about frm's in the tutorial in reference on how to make new art into prototypes..

all of the folders you need to make are clearly stated in the tutorial...

you need a set like he said...
and a similar set under the falloutgamedir\data directory.. ( minus the dev part.. so... falloutgamedir\data\proto\items etc.. ), where falloutgamedir is the directory the game exe is in...

I do wish people would read the tutorials carefully, and not just skim them... :roll:
 
like i said, im 100% sure, in fact 110% sure that the folders are right, they gotta be, ive checked, dubble checked and they are completely right............something else is wrong, by the way, after i made the proto, the PC made two new folders : critters.dat and master.dat, is thisbecause i renamed the critters and master.dat files (i know i read somewhere that i was supposed to)??????
 
that's your problem then, it can't find the prototype list to add to...
i never said you had to re-name the critters and master.dat, just the patch000.dat...

you'll have a list file in the data\proto\wherever folder with just the new proto in it.. which will then mess up the editor in turn because all the existing item \ scenery etc slots will be empty...

just delete the .lst file if this happens..
