As we all know, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been recently announced by GSC Game World on their main website. In the subsequent months, members of the YaStalker website enjoyed a contest related to the newest entry in the series - in which they were asked to create a quest that might be used in the final game - and can now submit their ideas for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2., both in the blog provided and in a special forum section on GSC-Fan.com.

However, all of those are reserved for those fluent in Russian. Speakers of other languages can joing the Facebook contest, in which the prize is a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 character named after them.

So, STALKER 2. What do you feel will it include?

Also, does anyone know which dead NPC in Call of Pripyat pays homage to another game?

Well there's a dead bloke with glasses who sold his crowbar for food after escaping from a secret lab in America in SoC, no clue if he's in CoP though. :V

I found STALKER to be somewhat a mediocre shooter. Though I feelt pretty hyped by many of the informations they have thrown out over the years, a huge zone with cars and even helicopters for the player, events with other Stalkers trying to do your missions and a lot more. They removed or didnt included a lot of it which is somewhat understandable ~ The game took quite some time to finish anyway. But still I expected a bit more then just your typical shooter and most of the "quests" you could solve have been pretty much just runing around searching stuff for people or killing some creature. THe last half of the game could be thrown out almost completely as you just run down a long path killing things left and right. I really hoped with the City of Pripjat to get a chance to explore it, find cues, bits of stories and a bit more interaction.

So I hope they do it either better this time with STALKER 2 or make it a linear shooter from the begining.

Well, I found STALKER to be somewhat refreshing. Agreed, it's a liniear as hell, and there is a real dearth of traders / safe houses. The last safe place for building a supply dump and for trading is the Freedom Base, so by the time you reach Pripiat you are allready running low on some supplies. Your low carry weight is realistic, but it does mean it takes some real effort to build up a supply dump. I know, I sound like a damm quatermaster, but it's a trait built up from years of Elder Scrolls/Fallouts and has served me well.

Make it a bit more free-roam, put in side-quests that actully are worth doing, perhaps add a couple of gunsmiths to repair that unique weapon you love so much, and I proberly end up getting it. Add a basic transport service running occasionly between the major areas and more stuff to spend your cash on and I definatly will. If it became a true linier shooter, I will proberly hold off until it's bargain binned.

To avoid seeing all the same places again, you could have it set to the north of the NPP, on the Belrus side. The different country would also give the excuse to putting in loads of new stuff...

Been there done that.

Aside from the fact that Call of Pripyat implied that the Zone was spreading, it is a series about a certain area and the events that go on within it.

It wouldn't make much sense to have a game in the series that didn't take place around Chernobyl just because you think it should.

I've just had my fill of the dreary, abandoned, decaying urban setting. Thought it was compelling 6 years ago, but now I just find it visually boring. At least with the way it's presented in STALKER, Metro 2033, Half-Life 2, Fallout 3 etc.

New Vegas and Rage should be a good break from it. I might feel differently after some time with them.

How is that any different? I don't understand your logic here. If I also remember correctly, Shadow of Chernobyl really didn't take place in an urban setting except for one major scene. Couldn't really comment on the others, I never got around to playing them.

I didn't mind the first STALKER game. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of freedom the game had especially when I heard all this hyperbole about how much you could do outside the story and how NPC's would directly influence the game world outside of your presence. I did enjoy the challenge though. Required more thought and tactics than sheer twitch. I think if they made it a true open world ,added on more survival aspects, expanded the world and added more fluff, I would be very content. Oh and work on the faction system more, thought I thought I heard the ability to work for different factions and play them off each other was in Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat.

Fallout series should drop post apocalyptic setting too and maybe do some awesome epic fantasy hero story. It's so "been there done that" at this point.
And don't get me started on all that repetitive vehicle jacking in Grand Theft Auto games. How much more of that shit I need to do, seriously..

There was nothing major about the original game that sucked, however, there were so many little sucky things that I couldn't even play the game, until I installed the unofficial mod, which actually made pretty enjoyable. Still, it felt like there wasn't a thought out game there.

As far as post apocalyptic settings go, STALKER's was superb and the action was pretty enjoyable as well.

Which mod do you mean, I quit playing because of all the little things, can you link me to this mod, so I can give Shadow of Chernobyl another go?

I am also interested on the mod.

Back OT, i loved the vision of the fist Stalker, before it all got cut into a regular shooter.

Games like space rangers 2, where you had this galaxy to explore, trade, do missions/quests, pirate, basicly carry out things how you wanted to. All while there were AI space rangers competing to do the same, are great.

So a real 3d shooter thats also a "4x" strategy game, sounded unbelieveable at the time. Hopefully now, or some day, a game like that can come out.

I believe it was the Oblivion Lost mod. It fixes a lot of annoyances, adds a bunch of features like drivable vehicles, and makes the game a lot more balanced and playable.

I found this via google, so it might not be the same as the one I played but I don't see why it would be worse:

I think I tried that mod once. But I am not sure right now.

Though it still doesnt change the fact that you can see how much has been "cut" in the game when I remember the pictures and informations they have shown before the game was released. You know the idea originaly was to put any open world games in to shame with a story that has rich content and a world that offers much to do and explore. Truth is that the Stalker world is really boring and I think they have thrown a way a lot of potential with the present factions as you really dont have much interaction with them. The first time I got a chance to "sneak" I was so disapointed from the game as it seems sometimes enemies have the ability to smell you or your glowing in the dark or something no clue.

I really hoped they learned something from STALKER SOC so the sequel will be better here and offer a better world and most important more realistic interactions with the enviroment and characters inside it. I mean see Metro for example, you dont need to make a game super big (in size) to get fun out of it. YOu just have to know what your target is the only issue with Metro is that the original book has probably 1000 pages of content and the game really not that much ... if you rush it its pretty fast over but the content IS definetly good.

STALKER was too boring for me. I enjoyed the combat but the exploration (ie walking around) was too much of the game and too uninteresting. It was topped off with a limited inventory size (really for no reason :falloutonline: ) and mostly uninteresting side stories. Some sort of fast travel would have been nice as well (be it vehicles or functionally more like Borderlands fast travel).
