The Glow: no charred bodies (German version)

There should be a body in the northeast room on level 2 of the Glow. The key should be on the body but ...

There is no such body in my game. There is absolutely nothing down there 'xept the BOS soldier, "dead" robots and a couple of items. The place is squeaky clean!

I'm playing the german version of the game with an uncensor patch, ... but why would that body/ashes be missing?

Can anyone help me with this? Maybe provide a screenshot of the exact spot where the body should be found?

Ask and you shall be given:

If the card is not there, try to load the game, exit the Glow, then alt+tab to windows, delete the file GLOW1.SAV from you Fallout\data\maps directory and re-enter the Glow.

EDIT:

Now I get it.

What you're talking about is Level One, there's the BOS Soldier and there's only a Yellow keycard there (on his corpse). Level two is actually level 2 subterranean, you need to use the elevator to get there once you get the Yellow Keycard first.

Was that the case?

Thanks for the image! Here's mine (I've tried reloading, including renaming the sav file (wasn't sure if it's really okay to delete it entirely).

Yes, I did find the yellow keycard on the BIS soldier on level one. He was the only body I ever found there.

I guess I'm screwed. Something isn't right with my game. Even the rat is missing!

If it's not, it must be a flaw with wine - I'm actually playing this using wine under Linux. The thing is that the game is perfectly fine otherwise - I'd be very surprised if wine is at fault. It wouldn't just selectively hide something in the game. So I blame the german version.

While I can still finish the game (all I need is the data module I got off the BIS soldier, right? He was right where he was supposed to be) I wish I could have read the stuff this super computer would tell me. I wanted to know all about those mutants.

urgh, what's up with your screens? SIlencer's looks all purple-ish and Jammet's looks all foggy :?

Oh, is your copy of Fallout legit? If it's pirated (yarr) it might be screwed up...If that's not the case then excuse me for asking
You could allways restart the game with a character boosted to teh MAX on luck and outoordsman, and then take a quickrun straight down to the glow. If all the stuff is there then it means your first save game is corrupt or damaged in some way.
If, on the other hand, there still is a dead man and a rat missing you can try to reinstall.
Also, don't worry about deleting savegame folders, it does nothing but remove the save game...

Silencer sent me a GLOW1.MAP file of his game version and I tried replacing that while running the game, and then moving into the area with the replaced file. Maybe I didn't do it right, so nothing had changed. Then I put GLOW1.MAP into the savegame directory while actually being in the glow, and tried loading that in. The game gives crashes the first time around with a Windows error popup saying that it couldn't load expected data.

Strange thing is, the GLOW1.MAP file is actually called GLOW1.SAV both in the maps directory and the savegames in my version of the game.

My screenshot was washed out because I edited it so you don't have to adjust your screen brightness to see something.

And yes the game is perfectly legit and I actually got it twice (boxed and one CD-only, I think that came bundled with a game mag).

Normally, I think, the GLOW1.MAP file is in MASTER.DAT, and is only available once you extract it. The file in the maps directory ought to override the one in MASTER.DAT, although I'm not so sure of thet (mod-savvy guys?)

The *.sav files are current states of the game - the ones in your \savegames are saves and the ones in \maps is the game now played.

I thought maybe replacing the map file with that from English version would work, but I guess I was wrong.

Well, the .sav file will always override the .map file, but I think it only works If they have not been there. Not sure how it works, Im only used to replaceing files in Fo:2, But I thin he may have to revert a game where he has not gone to the glow, and place the .sav file in the appropriat spot.

SAV and MAP are different types of files; When you first enter a map, there is no SAV file yet; The game creates it from MAP file in the MASTER.DAT. So what I wanted to achieve, was to remove the SAV files (not from the save game as it wouldn't load!) but from the current game (\maps), thereby forcing the game to load and play the map I provided...

Well, what I would like to know if there are even any charred corpse frms in his game. If there are none he's pretty much fucked. If there are, well someone at Interplay changed something they shouldent have...

Hmph. Maybe we should ask our resident Germans or the guys at Supermutants.de if this is a common problem in the German version...

There's really no problem in extracting the frms and making a patch.

Jammet, have you seen other corpses? Have you killed folks with Flamers or Blasters to see charred corpses? If this is a Low Violence version, then Argonnot may be right, someone might have removed charred corpses without thinking first. Typical of IPLYs modus censori.

There was one corpse right at the beginning of the game at vault 13, one more corpse that had lots of junk tech parts on it by the deathclaws... lots of corpses I 'caused'... but none of them looked like they were burned.

I've seen:

  • normal (wounded) dead people
splattered dead people (thanks to the patch)
    skeletons
    bonepiles

Looking closely at the corpse on your screenshot - I do not remember having seen a corpse exactly that one. Or anything that translates to 'charred corpse' in german either.

So, yeah, it would seem to be some kind of censorship. If so that's the most anticlimactic kind of censorship I've come across so far. Very very disappointing. But maybe another german Fallout player can confirm that.

I guess this anti-censorship-patch I used isn't living up to it's promise. I don't mind not being able to see blood. I wanted the content.

Ok then, thats the problem, all you need is to is find a Fo:1 patch with a the firedance, charred courpse and pile of ash frms in it.

Right. There's no life down there. The robots do not move and the rat's not there (the rat you can see on Silencer's screenshot).

Silencer now sent me a SAV file that I can try out when I get back home. I'll report back with whatever result I get. Hope that'll sort of "cheat" things around to let me pick up the card. Maybe there'll be invisible bodies then, if I'm lucky.

Or it'll say it couldn't load something that it wanted to, like with the MAP file that I renamed to SAV before when I was thinking they'd essentially be the the same file with just another name.

You shouldn't have renamed it, just use it as is.

Anyway, if you are missing the FRM's, I'll need some info on which files are they, I can't think of sending you the whole CRITTER.DAT :?

Well the rat is a firedeath frm, and if all fire death frms were removed in interplays easy peasy non-voilence rpg thats normaly very violent, it stands to reason then that the rats missing as are all the other bodies. (BTW, the robots dont move until the power is on)

Okay everyone, problem's solved. Just not the experimental way --

Now I do have the english game version. I may not keep it - but the savegame where I'm standing right above the Glow worked perfectly fine after patching the english game to 1.1 as well.

And from there I could just go on playing. Rat, bodies and keycards where all findable. So, even though I guess I'm given as much time with the game as I want, I do not have to start over from scratch.

Now, about the german version, only the rat in the Glow is missing. Not all rats. If rats were really animated in the same file and the file removed entirely, I wouldn't see any rats at all, right? The first cave at Vault 13 is filled up with rats though, in the german version too.

Man, there are bodies all over the place in the Glow. And anti-radiation medication and whatnot is all on the bodies. So with the german version you will probably get a lot less stuff. Everything you'd find on those corpses.

What's left to say for now? Thank you! To Silencer especially. I can still try that file if you're interested in what happens.

yeah, patches fix a lot of things in fallout...

if you havent played FO2 yet, when you start, make sure you DEFINATELY patch that.

and hopefully, killap will have the last few bugs out of his 1.04 patch (yay)
