I'm making a little announcement to the NMA community, because you're all a lovable gathering of hard-ass role playing game amateurs, and we are in need of people just like you, right now.
We're searching for contributors to actually make a game. Not a mod, but a standalone game.
So what is the Opokonverob project ?
It is a story-oriented role-playing game (RPG) project, like in the good old days.
It was born after hours of stimulating discussions about what makes a good RPG. We’ve had the feeling we had to act because our ideas were far from being undoable. That we should transmute them into a game and that we had the ability to do it.
The ultimate goal is to provide a small-scale multi-player experience similar to a pen'n'paper RPG
BUT
We know such a project will only build itself one stone at a time, so our first aim is to develop a small single player story.
That's why we need you.
The infrastructure is quite ready. For the past two three years I’ve been working on the engine, which is seriously starting to become usable. It is a polyvalent top-down game engine, RPG oriented.
The MONK Engine is the technical basis upon which we intend to develop the Opokonverob project. It's still an early alpha version, with its bugs and quirks, but it's enough to start doing serious work.
It's a C++ core with Python bidings so all the game mechanics can be prototyped in a timely manner.

Opokonverob is a serious project currently based in france, which aims at a commercial outcome : the indie RPG scene is only begging to be born, and we are searching for people wanting to invest a consequent slice of their time, with the aim of finishing a game and selling it. We are not specifically searching for french contributors, but the possibility of meeting in person somewhere in europe would be great.
At the moment the project consists of two members working on the project, but ideally we’re aiming at a team of three or four.
We are searching for people skilled in one or more of three fields : programming, game mechanics design, and graphic design.
The game itself is already mostly set-up on the conceptual level : all the game mechanics and principles are written black on white somewhere.
The story takes place in an underground city, a hostile environment where the dwellers have a rough time trying to survive. The accent will be put on social interactions between factions, crews and gangs, which will evolve by themselve. We are aiming for quality elements in a small game rather than quantity.
The mechanics are intended to be on the unforgiving and rough around the edges part of the RPG spectrum. You will not spend your time gathering expensive items, you will not spend your time heroically killing legendary creatures.
If you’re interested about the setting we’ll be glad to tell you more.
Note that nothing is pressing matters yet. The timescale will be long anyway.
The scope of this announcement is to make contact with potential teammates, see how we get along, and eventually start working together.
So, who hasn’t yet given up the dream of creating his own game ?
