1UP: What should we expect from Eidos in the near future?

Dyer: We're going to try to get more of a consumer focus into our games. Deus Ex: Invisible War was a good game with solid reviews, but not enough people bought it. We'll fix that in the future. There definitely will be a Deus Ex 3. People want another Thief, too. We'll make that series more modern, though...the medieval thing's run its course. The coming year will bring some really new, innovative titles, plus comebacks from many brands gamers are already familiar with.

Fans will probably jump on me for saying that but I don't care : a contemporary episode of Thief does not sound too bad in my opinion. Then, they might as well not call it Thief but anyway, just my two cents.

So, would you accept a medieval Fallout?. Or, let's say, in year 3000?.

Thief series has a special design, if they make a modern Thief, it will not be a Thief game. May be great, may be not, but not Thief.

I think that if Thief 4 is set in modern days, it will be a typical FPS with guns and so. They could develop the unfinished Deep Cover, from Looking Glass. Modern days, spies...

i'm guessing that by more modern they mean more steampunk
if this is true .. hooray .. after that pray for a good engine

No, because I am a fallout fan and I understand the importance of its setting. I do not care much about Thief even though I fairly enjoy the series. I wouldn't mind a modern Thief because I'm not a fan, just as I did not mind Call of duty 4 : Modern Warfare. But yeah, the gameplay would be rather different from the other episodes in a modern setting so they might as well not call it Thief.

Just so you know: a modern Thief was planned by the original developers as well, with the first mission being breaking into senator Bafford's mansion...

Thief 3 sucks balls and despite that I wanted to finish it, but I never finished it was because I'm too much of a pussy and could never get past the Shalebridge Cradle mission without nearly pissing myself from fear.

With my new PC I'm going to reinstall it and try again, only to find I'm still pissed that the levels seem too much like Deus Ex 2, as in too damn small.

And I still don't have rope arrows.

Oh well, hopefully if there is a new Thief game it fixes what was wrong with Thief 3.

Oh and IMO the dude that does Garrett's voice is one of the best voices anywhere.

There is some fixes in TTLG about Thief 3 which improves it. Specially one which increase texture resolution,

Anyway, Thief 3 is a good game, not so good as Thief 1 and 2, but still better than most of actual games. This game has one of the best levels I have played; The Asylum.
